So do the switches in the door cause the seat belts to not lock up? Because mine don't lock up, either and my dome light doesn't come on when I open either door. |

My b pillar has a threaded hole in it. It came with a plastic plug capping it of before I put my b/c pillar covers on. Is that normal? |

Shaft - The question was asked... what size metal plate was used, and how does one get it behind the pillar? |

Thanks. I, too, was wondering how you get the metal plate in there. That explains it. This mod is definitely on my to-do list; right after I score some new seatbelts, at the right price. |

i wouldnt use a small washer, your going to want as much surface area as you can cover with a high grade washer. Think about it. If you get into a wreck, all thats keeping your face from hitting a dash or windshield is a small washer with not much surface to put pressure on that thin sheet metal..... I used a piece of 1/8" plate steel as my washer base, and a grade 9001 bolt and nut, with a lock washer. |

I went to fasten my seat belt this morning and there was an unusual "pop" from the buckle, and now the tab will not go in despite my best efforts! Looks like I'll be doing a seat belt mod of my own in the very near future! Meanwhile, the Metro is parked. I installed seat belts (lap strap only) in my '63 Beetle. They saved my life when that '77 Buick turned left across my path. I broke the steering wheel off with my nose and lost a year of college for a TBI, but at least I was alive. I am a firm believer in seat belts! I don't care what the laws of the state are, but I have great respect for the laws of physics. Little cars lose! |

Simple to replace seatbelt latch receiver. Don't let the grass grow under your seat |

Yo, Prof, how did you make out with installing that seatbelt you picked up from the jy the other day? Did you get it installed? If so, how do you like it, vs the old door-mount style? What are your plans for that "spare" one? How much you want for it; if'n you're of a mind to part with it?This mod is still on my to-do list. I snagged a small piece of plate steel from work the other day, that is approx. 3/16" x 1.5" x 2.5". That, bloody well, ought to hold it, if an F-150 should come my way, rather rudely. Now, I just have to drill a big hole in it, and then weld the fastening nut onto the back of it. Of course, I still need to acquire a seatbelt to attach to it.

I couldn't find a decent seat belt that wanted to part company with its car, so I switched to Plan B and took a couple of latches instead. Took 15 minutes to change out the latch and I still have a spare, just in case. Haven't given up on the idea, just moved it back in priority. Still want to get rid of the door mounted belts, but first I'm going to replace shocks, struts and springs, wire in a small amp and new speakers, install the tach and vacuum gauge, build a console, ...

Ahh. OK - path of least resistance. Guess I'll keep searching for one, then. I keep hoping to latch onto one that the owner isn't quite as attached to as what I've been encountering. Replacing your old worn out struts, and switching to the lowered springs, will make a huge difference in the ride quality and handling of your car; I know it did for mine. Also, if you haven't done it already, be sure and put a set of sway bars on it. That did as much to improve the handling on mine, as did replacing the struts and chopping the springs. Actually, I'm in the hunt for a replacement gauge cluster w/tach for my car, right now. I figure, as long as I've got the dash tore out of it, this would be a good time to do that upgrade, too. I found one for cheap, that has a boogered up lens, that I'm tempted to pop on, I just don't know if I can swap the lens from my, non-tach equipped, cluster, to put on the replacement one. Anyone know? |

Door panels from a 92 or 93 vert should be the answer... I think?
