What would cause a prop?
If you have a heavy load on your alternator, such as the equipment you describe, it loads the alternator down. The alternator then loads the engine down.

The engine still has to turn the alternator whether it has a light load or a heavy load. Light load = not much engine rpm drop. more load on the alternator = more drop to the engine rpm.

The question that has come up in looking for an alternator to try is specifically what years and type of cars do you look for to get this alternator. I have looked at many in the j/y and they all seem to have the mounting points clocked wrong to put on our cars.
all you have to do is bring it to a rebuilder shop and buy the proper 12 and 6 o'clock case half. that's what I did with mine, could find the proper alternator body but not the mounting points.
