http://geometroforum.com/topic/4141719/1/?author=1487815 Mwebb has a lot of stuff on dogshit oils.. and good oils.. but if you just want to spend 10 dollars a quart you too can have the "best oil" ;-)

It's a geo....buy the cheapest. I would run good oil in my car if I had it since new. In terms of best....I just thought it was mobile 1 or some fancy lucas oil Edited by Horn, Sep 23 2013, 10:50 AM.

You can get a Mobil 1 0W40 at Wal-Mart for like $22-24 for 5 quarts. This is probably the cheapest oil that meets all the fancy ACEA specs required by MWebb although Geo Glenn suggests the Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 which EXCEEDS all those specs but costs about double. I have a used engine that I swapped into my car. The previous one burned oil and smoked like mad. This one runs great and doesn't appear to use a drop of oil between changes so I consider this a very nice used engine. I want to keep it that way so I am going to use a good oil, not just the cheapest on sale or the store brand. Also, many of the parts stores offer sales where you can get a filter and 5 quarts of oil for about the same as the Wal-Mart deal if you purchased a filter separate. Yeah, it costs more but you get the filter included. This is fine as long as it is a good one and not FRAM. I personally think it is worth it to run good oil even if it is a Geo. I run full synthetic in all my outdoor lawn equipment and have never had an oil related issue even on the cheapest of the small engines. Conor |

Everything I owe that has an engine has Amsoil in it. Changing oil once a year/every 15k makes up for the price of it. |

Why is it there's always a noob pushing Amsoil in every thread like this? Lol. Not that I'm against it, but good grief. This topic is a thread of worms. As far as fact, Geo Glenn probably does have the best oil with that LiquiMoly 4200 whatever. I read the bottle, it's credentials are extensive, and impressive. I've used all the "big name" oils, Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Castrol GTX, et cetera, and so on and so forth, and I've settled into using Quaker State Defy 5W30. I don't know if it's "best", but my engine sure does like it. See....![]() 226,994 miles, and still looking this good inside. |

I cant bilieve people spend around $50 for oil for a little geo metro! Just go buy the mobile synthetic at Wal mart and you will be good to go for a long time! |

My first metro got 180000 miles before having to have engine work on very few oil changes and when it did it got dogsnit oil. And that is all I have to say about that. |

I suppose it depends a lot on perspective. If I put a 50 dollar oil change and run it 15,000 miles, *of course mine leaks so I add a quart every 5,000 miles.. ugh* if I changed it every 3,000 miles, and let carbon build up, and spent 25 $ every 3,000 miles.. its actually worse for the engine? and costs more.. I also am trying to only run top tier fuels which cost more too sometimes, but I want my car to last a long time and be in good condition even once I switch out to a new engine the old will not need much work I hope. |

For me, it's my only means of transportation, so yes, I baby the hell out of it, and maintain it's engine's fluids more often than the factory ever intended. My "old" oil is clean enough that I use it in all of my family's lawn mowers after it's spent 3K in my engine. |

Truth is these are not race cars. We don't have the oil shear and 300° oil temps of high performance engines. Run any decent oil, change it around 5k, use a quality filter (I'm partial to Purolator pure one) and rest easy. |
