Put the cheapest oil in with a fram oil filter and you will be fine! |

I'm not pushing anything, just answering the question. Never said anything bad about other brands. I just have no reason to try anything else based on my experience
The distribution warehouse is about 10 miles away from my house, even closer from work. With dealer/preferred customer pricing and no shipping cost it is only slightly more than walmart's synthetics. I also enjoy changing the oil only once, maybe twice a year |

I am currently building a engine for my geo project and since the engine will be brand new with no cut corners, I will run good oil... However, if your engine has a million miles and burns/leaks oil I see no point in anything better than dog shit oil. It depends upon what condition of vehicle you are putting the oil in. My beat up subaru with 285,000 miles that burns plenty of oil will not benefit at all from high quality oil... It's way beyond that point! |

I've tried all sorts of oils and filters as well. The yellow/gold purolator 99.9% filter has been the best for me. As for oil I only recently discovered my best to the dollor and that is the European Formula Mobile Synthetic 0-40w. I picked up another 5 quart jug yesterday for $24 at Walmart, Oreally's had the same for $36 Typically using all other oils in the past I had to add a good 1/2 quart per 4-5k miles. With this Euro 0-40 its closer to 1/4 quart (8oz) at 5k or none. I run it to 10k and it doesnt look as bad as many other oils at half that. Like always, Europeans hold or demand a higher standard. At less than $5 a quart I dont think you can do better.

So that Mobil 1 ow-40 seems to be some good stuff.... What is the advantage to using the 0w over 5w? The geo owners manual suggests 5w--- you using 0w primarily for fuel economy-or what? |

What is the advantage to using the 0w over 5w? More MPG, better cold starts. 0W-30, or 0W-20, or 5W-20 all supercede 5w-30, and meet or exceed a Geo's needs. Downside, if you burn or leak oil now, you might burn or leak more of it because the oil is thinner. |

More thoughts. I drive 60 miles round trip each day 7.days a week. In my truck at 11 mpg I'd spend a lot in gas.... my geo getting 50 mpg I can save enough money to afford good oil. I rebuild and cleaned my engine... the crank seal still has a slight leak no matter what I do.... I plan to get a geo Glenn engine eventually. I love my car and baby it... it saves me enough money that not loving it and babying to me would be strange.... good oil good filters good gas.... 50mpg average... how can I complain? Seriously with getting the most out of that I can.... just my feeling. |

I'm not knocking you for advocating a particular product, I've just noticed that the Amsoil guy on every forum is always someone with less than 20 posts. I find it amusing is all. Kind of a strange coincidence I'm sure, but still funny to me. And sarcasm doesn't show well in text.

Any good syn 0w-20 and a one quart ford filter does the trick. i have 6k on Quaker state ultimate durability. 0w-20 and ford fl-400s. not a drop of usage and silky smooth and no chatter ticks or noise. napa has there napa syn on sale for 3.49/qt. it is relabeled valvoline synpower. i bought 12qts last weekend. i have to go back to get filters for the diesel. i am gonna get a couple more cases of the 0w-20 flavor. ken |

The 1.0 Suzuki metro was not produced to run the full syn type oil try mobile 5000 super 5 - 30 can't go wrong with this oil I run this oil in my new build its a perfect new 20 over motor I just built and has 3000 miles on same. filter motorcraft FL400s is oversized and has a anti drainback valve built in. ] ![]()

If you want your 1.0 to have a short life use a Fram filter and dino oil. Otherwise pay the $25 and get Walmart 5 quart 0-40w European synthetic and a good synthetic filter. No problem with 7,000+ miles. I've pushed 11k and the oil was still serviceable. I'm just too consevative and cannot handle the dark color.

All this oil talk makes me laugh. My 1988 Chevrolet Sprint (the original 1.0L) used 20W-50 Castrol and Fram oil filter. I had over 113k miles on it when I sold it, and it never used a drop with 3k oil changes and 54-57 mpg all day long. SERIOUSLY! Now, don't get me wrong, I like using Castrol 10W-30 in my Metro and I use Wix oil filters now. I tried Mobil 1 5W-30 and Castrol 5W-30 in it, and I could hardly keep oil in the crankcase. Yeah, it's seen it's better days because it uses a quart of oil every 400 miles, but it still gets 48 mpg all day long, and has gotten as good as 54 mpg. So, who am I to complain? |

Older vehicles with high mileage tend to have excessive mechanical wear in the engine, allowing for internal oil leakage. On vehicles with high mileage, it is not recommended to use full synthetic oil because it is thin and very free flowing, and use of it DOES ,often result in internal oil combustion. this leads to more build up of carbon in the combustion chamber /pistons more compression on a old motor and ping spark knock and then well you know what comes next.. ...
