That's some great info, glad you posted that because I was going to get hex bolt stainless because like I said- old craftsman socket fit fine but the new school craftsman didn't fit because the edges of the socket are thicker than the old one. |

young'un, you can't whittle for shit! ![]() just ribbin' ya'. ![]() i use titanium, truncated allen headed bolts there. going for lightness? the titanium bolts weigh 1/3 of the steel bolts and have an equal tensile strength, and excellent shear strength. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4pcs-M6-x-30-Titanium-Ti-Screw-Bolt-Allen-hex-Socket-Cap-head-Aerospace-Grade-/111294982822?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19e9b2aaa6#ht_1209wt_664 and, you are about to get a lesson in swapping parts to make a 4 rib belt line up on a mk2/3 g10 that wants a 3 rib belt. get looking for a g13 alternator mount and upper adjustable mount. you also need the slotted g13 water pump pulley and an alternator with a 4 rib pulley. the good news is that you get another shot at the upper mount.

Ahhh but I have the 4 rib alt pulley the 4 rib water pump and I ordered the SRD 4 rib 4 bolt and they sent me the 3 rib 4 bolt so after finding it didn't fit any way I said fk it it's going on. I can probably order them titanium bolts, ultimately I want my 3 cyl to perform fantastic above other 3 cyl, but with things at home being tight I must be smart and make my parts last as well as perform. Being a daily driver and a 50,000 mile/yr car it needs to last. That's why I love the quiet interior. Thanks for reading and commenting I look at your projects and it inspires me to build better. Snowfish has an amazing ride too and his project makes me look and stare in awe |

really ? i was wondering today because I bolted on some 32MM grade 10.9 bolts today at work. i was confused as i was only used to grade 8 bolts. we only use metric bolts on the driveshafts. |

So a while ago I was reading T3s post on his car and he bought some kyb shocks and mentions a rebate, well I didn't think much of it until DTM (branko) told me about it when I was at his place showing off my new pulley. Any way went to napa bought the struts used a military discount and then I'm sending off my KYB bar codes receipt and the rebate. I'll take my 40$ off on a side note I had some rear struts to compare to the kyb and I was actually quite shocked at how blown out they were. I have a feeling my car will handle much better than it currently handles. So thanks guys for pointing out the rebate.

it's more than likely that the struts you have had on the car are oil only type. the kyb struts are gas over oil which makes the strut shaft extend on it's own steam. gas over oil struts dramatically improve suspension compliance. there's not a doubt in my mind that the difference will be apparent.

Yea I'm really excited because I get the gas ones for the same price as oil ones and that's cool, thanks for the info on the rebate. The shocks on this car have never been changed as far as I know and I wast to think that they have 425,000 miles on them. I was leaving Brankos house and I backed out of the dip slow he walks over to my car and said "I can tell those need to be replaced" so basically it was obvious from backing out of a drive way that they are bad On a side tab- my spare head was sent out to mike at 3tec for the performance package upgrade, cam valves porting all that stuff, I'm pretty excited about that. This may sound crazy but just when you say the upgrades on a vehicle when you state "port polished camed blah blah" people tend to go ohhh ahhh it's funny, even if the parts do NOTHING

If you slam your car door, go in your house and look out to check on your car and it is still moving like a bobble head, you know you need new shocks.

Today was rather productive- went to Brankos house picked up his lady so the girls could go get the nails feet thing done- girls taken care of we decided to tear apart my rear drums and they are so worn out that the shoes are stuck in the drum itself, so we decided to leave them alone till I get new parts. The conclusion is that I need drums shoes and springs, should do the bearings too. He let me drive his swift GT and even tho it has some problems I was thrilled, basically I drove my dream car for the first time in my life what a ride, even tho it's messed up still had lots of fun. Then I drove a MK3 metro 3/5 and the interior is nice and the brakes are nice too, I hate the outside but inside is pretty cool. |

Mileage on your car, plus the weight you have subjected them too = mega shot! I hope to cut my struts and get new struts... one year. |

When something bothers you- I try to stay out of trouble I try to do the right things. I spend money for parts on my car that I know I will not get money back on. Some would ask "why bother" and I tell them because it keeps me out of trouble, buying parts modifying things and being proud of my ride. My car is a thing of pride for me and I take great care of it. I wash it I wax it I fix things I make it better. I even clean the engine tires shocks as wheel wells. Some would ask "why bother it's a waste of time" because it's fun to me, keeps me entertained and out of trouble. I buy parts for my car that cost a pretty penny and some would ask "why bother it's a waste" because it's fun and I could easy go spend that 100$ on a sack and smoke it away but what did I do? I bought car parts. With my newly acquired parts I headed to my garage and tinkered away the time, learning making mistakes as struggleing. Some would ask "why bother it's a waste" because it's fun to learn new things make mistakes. Then when your hard work sore fingers and sweaty brow sit in that seat and there is nothing like gripping the wheel and pressing the gas hearing the motor knowing "I DID THIS" some just do not understand that the money spent on the car for things is because I want to and it's fun, I want to know I'm the one who turned the bolts I'm the one who smashed my finger I'm the one who's arms were tired holding them up turning bolts. Those who do not understand this will never understand. Some would ask me "why not get a faster car?" And my reply is I don't want a fast car, I want a FUN car and to me my 1992 geo metro with the huge sound system and blown shocks is the best car ever. I wouldn't give it up. I would like to say thanks to my car for teaching me so many things that books could never teach me. I'd like to say thanks to my car for giving me so many hours in the garage playing with parts. I would also like to thank my car for giving me so many hours of trouble free operation and so many miles of enjoyment. Maybe one day dad you will understand that my car is an expression of me and when I spend money on my car it's because I enjoy the thrill of the mail lady delivering new parts and the thrill of installing my new parts, one day dad maybe we can have a project car together and work on it. Maybe one day I'll live up to your expectations and one day maybe just maybe you will be proud of me for who I am and the hard work I've put Into my car. |
