Aww ![]() At first I was reading, like, "you're preaching to the choir, buddy, we don't think working on a Metro is a waste of time..." But then I got to the part about your Dad. ![]() I hope one day he does understand. And I hope it's soon... |

In life you must do as you want to. When the day arrives that your spirit departs your fragile human form and returns from where it came do you know who will be with you? Not your dad, not your dog, not your friends. Only you will be with you. So do whatever makes you happy, it is your life and no one may govern over it but you. Advice from someone who spent far too much time caring about what others thought |

Sometimes we operate in a different world than our significant relatives and it makes it difficult for them to understand what we enjoy (my father has failed at changing a light bulb on occasion). This doesn't necessarily mean they are not proud of the things we do, just that it might not be for what you think. Most of the time they have our best interests at heart. They believe the money is poorly spent and not returning value, the time is poorly spent and could be better used to better our minds etc. That belief does not preclude them from being proud that you didn't waste it on a "bag" or other non productive items. A lot of families have trouble expressing how they feel about each other. The unfortunate part is the "ideal" that is shown on TV becomes what we believe most families experience. In my experience, the families that are closest to that ideal are the ones covering up the worst transgressions and have the worst relationships. So, what can be done? It is an opportunity, or rather a couple of opportunities. I'll start with self development. It's a two way street. Have you expressed what you are proud of your father for? Have you given him the opportunity to experience what it is you do when working on your car? You know the answers, it is kind of a self inventory and there is no need to share. So now the tougher bit, ask. Make it easy on him (them), ask what you would like to know. Be honest and forthright. Some people have a problem doing this without appearing to be on the attack, so practice may be in order. Ask what you want to know, "are you proud of me?". Great conversation starter for most families. And as a final bit, as we grow older, we need the approval of our elders and peers less for our own self worth. It is always nice to get positive feedback, but you learn that it isn't the best idea to hinge your own happiness on how others tell you they feel about you. It is more important how you feel about you. It's worth repeating as a mantra. It is more important how you feel about you. Try not to do things that make you feel bad about yourself and you're on the right track. Only families with major issues will have a big problem with this, and you give no indication that is the case here. And besides, most here think of this as a family, and I'm pretty confident that most of us are impressed (and proud) of what you've done with your ride.

Its called a 'generation gap'. I had the same gap with my dad, but naturally it was quite different. He was born 1905. Never learned to read or write. Never owned a car. He had a great disdain for education. "waste of time" --"I made it all my life without wasting time in that manner" He could not understand why an automobile was so important. "Damn horse is all you need" -- "Don't have to work on a horse for two hours to use it for an hour" He was almost 80 and I was 35 before "THE UNDERSTANDING" |

Changed oil and changed filter from the giant bosh filter to the stock filter. Because the AC won't fit the giant filters. Also changed the spark plugs for the first time this year. Some champion plug I got for 1.05$ each

![]() So Here is my money order shipping out first thing in the morning. I have noted a weird thing with the car I hope the turbine brace helps. Basically what I've noted is when you take a corner really hard, fast, slow, but hard, the car goes out of alignment and will pull for a little while then go back to normal. I think from what has been posted on GMF and what others have said that's because the frame is bending under a hard load like that. I think. Well any way I hope the brace helps with the weird geometry changes and helps with cornering. Been a few times I've needed to get out of a hairy situation and I rely heavy on the car to perform a certain way. |

Weird ive never noticed that, ive gotten my geo on the curbs to the point where i need to counter steer and i pretty much steer with the accelerator. I really kick the crap out of the 145s which i should not because i only have 3 studs on my rear left tire. Im going to buy a dash camaro for work and might as well record all the fun with it. |

Lol you use the accelerator to help your Corning to, nice! On round abouts where the cement gutter meets the black top there is a lip right there, I ride that lip the the insides of my tires to throw the heavy car around the corner. So much fun these cars are. I think the reason they are fun is because the level of fun is so low, you don't need to go more than 30mph to feel the rush of the car. Sports cars at 30 mph your still in first gear. Some cars you do not get the rush of fun till 60-70 more mph. That's why I love the geos fun at a low level |

Ask a guy with his engine tore down waiting for parts. He will tell you that any car, driven at any speed is where the "fun" is. Circumstances mean a lot.

jato, i take it that you hooked up with jess. excellent! ![]() what you are describing about your chassis is just the sort of thing that the turbine tech lower 4 point brace corrects. most people don't understand how much testing and research have gone into the turbine tech brace. there are a lot of very small points incorporated into this design that go unseen. i'll tell you that nobody else has built a lower brace for our cars as effective or as elegantly fabricated as the turbine tech unit. as you get the suspension closer to perfection you are going to start noticing other things like the rear end "wiggling" in a high g cornering move. that will be the rear toe links flexing. other things will be the clapped out rubber suspension bushings in the control arms, excessive body roll, the inner rear tire lifting in a corner, etc. pay attention to my red vert thread and snowfish's ice blue thread. both cars have advanced suspension enhancements that are afforable-ish (under $500.) |

Ahh my car is still drive able. Sent a good head for a better return. When my parts come back I'll have another good head (one I'm running now) ill box it up and save it for the time I need it. The suspension is still together but I'll be tearin Into it soon as I can. I have new kyb gr2 gas struts waiting for me, also got late model metro springs that are heavier than old metro springs. Firm up a bit with gas struts + springs. Got a turbine brace on its way soon as the letter gets there. I'll put that on when I get it, I have some polyurethane sway bar bushings ad new bushing holders (snow fish editions) those will go on soon. I honestly would rather have a slow car that handles fun than a fast car that sucks in a corner. To me corners are more fun than power. |

I'm actually quite excited about my parts. I'm really excited about getting my car to "feel good" suspension upgrades and fixes. The head package will be lots of fun, the cam will be fun too. My goal is to be. Comfortable, powerful, quiet. I want the seats air conditioning and interior to be smooth and in working order. I want the exhaust engine and tires to be quiet, I want the engine to have enough power to haul around all the heavy mods and not feel boggy. I'm not going for a sport car I'm going for MY car, when I take corners I want it to feel stable solid and under control. When the car is on a long road trip I want it to be quiet and not drain it's driver of energy. I want to keep up with cars on an interstate 80 mph for hours and nothing breaking or failing. I guess that's my goal. |

when i started with my first vert back in 2001 i concentrated on the suspension first because with no sway bars and 165/ 65 13" tires driving a vert was sort of like getting the shopping cart with the bad wheel at the grocery store. ![]() i got the suspension tweaked to the point where a great running g10 couldn't push the car to it's limit before i ever started increasing hp output. i did my testing with a g tech performance meter measuring lateral g forces and i made a lot of changes. some moved things forward and some things didn't pan out. basically, my results and reading and consulting with teamswift members led to my series of suspension mods. now i can throw a bunch of parts at a car and end up with something that approaches being the equal to the european sports cars i had when i was younger. i'd rather have a prepared metro than the lotus europa i owned in 1978. as a matter of fact, i could drive any car i wanted (within reason, i can't afford a $60k car) and you can see what i've been driving since 2001 - always a metro or swift. |
