Well I know I said I'm going to start tomorow but...I could not wait 1 more second.

Got the car in the garage nice and clean, turned on the AC and decided to get started.

I tied the hood back for maximum work room and it was much brighter with the hood not casting shadows on my shiny engine.

So the head bolts I was really super gentle with them, I cracked them all literally "crack" then slowly kept working at them as to evenly remove them all. Then I nearly lost skin on the top of the valve cover studs when the china tool broke, it just twisted itself apart, stupid thing is a hazard. Got new tool and removed all the bolts successfully.

After I had cracked the bolts I sprayed them and let them settle for a few mins. Some one told me your more likely to break bolts with "twist" action vs an impacts "hammer" action. So I let em sit and relax- removed the intake TB, I want to polish the aluminum like one of our members did. (Least I'll try)

If any thing I will clean it up really good and make sure the EGR is clean and the water jackets are clean.

Head came off with little effort exhaust flange bolts were tight but they came right out. So my pistons seem to look pretty good for having 57K on them. The walls of the cylinders are smooth and no visual damage or scoring :)

So since I did not have MMO I used ATF since it's kinda the same???? :x clean it all up great. I stuffed lots of towels tight in the passages and yes I got my brass check valve. So it's ready for me to nit pick at the gasket and clean my engine bay in the morning. I did not realize how late it is, got up at 3:40 am for work, worked all day because some big store corporate pow wow was supposed to come to my store so as usual the managers run around and spazz like angered baboons because the store looked like a good will. Any way after work I cleaned the garage and got so excited about my car I could not wait any longer, here it is now 12:42 am and I'm just about to go to bed. Can't wait to get up to play with my car it's so exciting!

:lol

Looking good! I always remove bolts with breaker bar then speed handle if theres space, if there's no space I use the Close end wrench. Ratches I only used to tighten or for light duty.

I feel like you and I have some common interest in Our cars, Both the same age group and both the same amount of love towards out cars. I just wish you lived closer!

I have lots of family in Cali, I'm around Cali once in a while. Maybe a metro meet up is in order.

Took the stock cast manifold and ground on it for ever and now i itch, but it's cleaned up real nice and the castings are cut down for looks. Got some high temp paint for it that should look real nice.

I took a 0-75 video of my last set up. And I'll see if I can put the 2 side by side new 0-70 and old 0-70 see what the difference is. Hard to film shift and all that by myself :lol

I decided since I have a few valve covers I will try and see if I like this better. I trimmed the cover mount down, sanded the raw metal then polished it with scotch brite and oil, don't mind the smudgy finger prints all over. I really think I like the clean "mechanical" look of this. I like being able to see the mechanical workings of things so for auto makers to cover brilliant design with plastic molding guards shields and other crap it's hard to see what's doing the work, mostly I talk about new cars the geo is a badic open design not much is hidden. Any way I think I like this

Before I put the exhaust to the head I undid the joint by the shifter and turned the exhaust to I could dent the pipe a little bit by where it was rubbing on the brace, so I used a small ball hammer to pit the pipe in a large space so it's not a kink. When I learn to weld electric ill upgrade my pipe system and fix all this mess.
