Yea I can imagine. Congrats by the way dude, big deal having a kid on the way. The main reason I like the high end speedo read out is it makes the car feel "grown up" most cars have the read out that goes up high enough for just about any thing. 85mph is cheesy to me, makes the metro feel like a shiz box car. Having the high read in my mind feels grown up. Will it go 120? Probably not, 105 tops maybe. But still I like it. Kinda nice on the high way because just keep the pin straight up

there's a much bigger benefit to the speedo being registered to 120 mph (it's actually 130 but 120 is the biggest number.) analog instrumentation is always most accurate at it's middle measurement point. registration to 130 mph makes the speedometer its most accurate at 65 mph. ![]() on a different note, when you start to operate a metro at our new, higher highway speeds it's very important to consider the speed rating of your tires. on this forum i read posts that discuss price and wear ratings but almost never anything about real performance. i'm not a hypermile guy, i'm a go faster guy. the things i do to my project cars always increase the speed of my cars and sometimes i drive them to the point where i get the willies that a tire will blow out on me. i used to run tires with speed ratings of 110 mph but in the last 5 years or so i have moved to tires rated at 130 mph on my project cars. i recently ran the red twincam vert on new pavement until the speedo pointer passed the last gradation on the 120 mph gt cluster (past 130.) as i was holding that speed i noted i was at a rate of 126 mph on gps. that was top up, windows up, seat belt on, and sphincter puckered. ![]() there was more left in the twincam engine, too. it might very well go fast enough to exceed the tire speed rating. 130v tires are already way above the price of economy tires and anything above 130 mph starts to get into the $400-$500 per tire range. i'd also have to move to 15" or 16" wheels at that point as well. at those speeds i would also be way above the threshold for safe brakes. how do i know these things? not only by looking at the specs but by past experimentation. here's my white 92 twincam vert set up for casual autox days. those are modified suzuki reno 15 x 6j rims shod with wanli competition 195/55 15 tires. here's my black 89 gti on 17" enkie rims and 45 ratio rubber. |

Yea I understand the speed rating on the tires but honestly I don't think the car can exceed the tires yet. And also the brakes are not so great. But the entire thing was that the higher read out makes the geo feel like a grown up car. Because a stock metro to me feels like a kids car, light bouncy slow and that stupid looking face on the front. It's all opinion tho. And when I (if) I ever make enough money I'll buy a powerful luxury car. And I used to drive a stock metro and it would stress me out to take it on road trips, 75 mph I would stress and worry about the car, it was loud and shaky. Now I can hit 90-95 mph and just hang, it's not shaky it's not scary it's quiet and smooth. I'll never go back to a stock metro they are big pices of honestly. Sway bars were the best thing I ever did, I can not for the life of me understand why this is not a number 1 mod on these cars. The sway bars alone made the car handle like a car and not a toy. Then I moved to luxury upgrades like adding weight in foam and sound proofing. Whisper ride well above 75mph at 65 the car is so freakin quiet not a whistle or road pebble to be heard. The car as stock is what it is, but I don't like them. And as a builder I build what I want my car to be. It will never be quiet as some of these huge luxury sedans it will never be any thing more than an over weight metro. The addition of sound system was at my own expense and it used to be needed to hear over the cars horrid sound, now it's just for fun.

![]() Ok how on earth do these bolts break? I was doing my oil change and noted that the wheel was loose, so I take it off to discover that I have 3 broken hub disc bolts. Can see they are bust clean off in there. ![]() Kinda stupid design to have the hub be pounded on with a slide hammer to get it apart. But I took my time with it and worked it off nice and easy, hope the bearings survived. Time will tell. I also popped the front bearing seal off and forced some grease into it, not sure what it helped but whatever. ![]() Rained a few days ago, look at this horrific rust, almost rust belt status

tanner, set a goal for yourself to swap the front knuckles and brakes to the rotor over hub style from the verts/ turbo3 cars. they are more rugged, have ventilated rotors that don't warp at the first emergency stop, and are easier to service. you can change pucks and rotors without dragging the hubs out of the wheel bearings. you also get 12mm lugs along with the brake upgrade.

I know...that just means I loose my speedy spooling 12" rims/tires...Ok so the loose wheel issue is not solved. After all this the entire wheel is still loose, don't know if it's ball joint? Or tie rod? From the looks of it I would swear it's loose I the center of everything. |

![]() Forgot to show off my new bolts, pretty ohhhh, ahhhh. So last night I ordered lower control arms L&R inner tie rods and the ball link end that goes on the tie rod. Also I have some new sway bar bushings, the blocks that bolt under the car. So that should I hope fix up some of my issues with the front being worn out. |

You can probably get 13" tires that are the same outside diameter as 12" tires. My Vert can really stop compared to my hatch. |

yep, the vert brakes are a big improvement over the solid rotors on the base model 3 and 5 door cars. jato, you can buy lower profile tires for a 13" wheel that have the same or smaller circumference as the 12" tires you are running. a 185/60 13 tire is about the same diameter as a 155/70 12. so as far as final gearing you can keep that pretty much the same with 13" tires as it is with 12" tires. the rotational mass might be a little higher but the gains in performance in other areas, like braking and handling, are improved.

Original size, IIRC, on a vert is 165/65/13, which is a 13 that thinks it's a 12 ![]() Hard to find, though. |
