So I got on the freeway today and got around 80 or so and felt this vibe in the back end. I honestly thought a wheel weight had fallen off so I stop for lunch and do a shake down of my car and I was shocked to see this. I was wondering what the crunch crunch sound was.... Well here is the crunch sound :O

Holley crudo bat man! I would think you would have had to hit something big and at high speed for that. Wow.

Nothing was hit nothing was run over it just.... Was there for no reason. I don't know how it got there. This means these cars are getting old if steel rims are cracking.

Wow....

VERY happy to see nothing bad came out of that serious failure. :thumb

At least it's comforting to know if it had come apart on the highway, you would have only been doing 35-40 mph.... ;)

that gives new meaning to the phrase "running the wheels off a car." :P

i have seen cracked steel wheels on metros before. the cracks seem to start in a rust pit and get bigger really fast.

label that set up "not suitable for turbo use." ;)

Thanks I know, I be super sad if something happened to my car, wreck it or something, be the worst thing all over again. (Old blue geo was rear ended and that was my favorite car ever)

Rust? These wheels are rust free I sanded them down and painted them myself. Fanya said it's probably from brake heat and DTM-GTI said this wheel probably has a million miles on it :rofl

Looked like good ol' metal fatigue, considering he got that wheel out of the junkyard it probably already had 200Kmil and then he drove as much himself. Our cars are REALLY durable but every party has to end sooner or later ^o)

So as I'm checking over my rims in some high sunlight I see this rim has 3 cracks in it. I pull the rim off and see these cracks go all the way through to the back. Basicly this rim is hanging on by 3 little pices of metal....what the crap is up with this :banghead

Good thing you have a set of GT steels coming your way. Glad you caught it.

Sure is a lot of 'dings' (hammer marks?) just to the outside of each of those cracks.
