So I walked out of the bank this morning and see something hanging down off the bottom of the car..

Nothing to weld to since it's all rust. I'm going to try to resurrect it, but it's not looking good.

Yeah..I'll probably save up and go down south and find a mostly rust-free one.

After a careful and sketchy 40 mile drive the Metro is back at my house. Might tinker around with it and try to fabricate something up to fix it. Nothing to lose considering it is headed for the junkyard anyway.

It's a joke scoobs, my stock 13" wheels only accept the stock 12" wheel's center caps for some unknown reason. Stock 13" center caps won't work on my wheels anyway.

They took lots of convincing to go on the back wheels..possibly due to the brake drum. If I end up having to scrap the car I'll make sure to put the caps on here for sale/donation/whatever. I might even let my useless yet possibly rare antenna delete go :lol

Let me know if you let the antenna delete go. Mine is broken, and I have a cheap Ebay antenna. I'd like to cover the stock hole lol

After a few hours of welding random pieces of scrap to my undercarriage and sweeping an alarming portion of my car off the garage floor, it lives. :D

I'll not post pics of the repair for fear of being on the wall of shame, but I torture tested it before leaving for work and everything held together fantastically.

Okay, maybe 1 pic-

Drove it 12 miles to work, 1 mile of which was down a REALLY rutted out dirt road, and all is well.

Don't junk it. All those old muscle cars are restored through metal surgery. Same can be done for a Metro. You can't buy the pre fabbed parts but make your own and have the satisfaction afterwards. I spent at least 40 hours on the rotted front lower control arm areas on my '97 and have driven it near 30,000 miles since buying it off the young guy who was gonna junk it. Made patterns from the Mt Dew case cardboard, traced them onto the flat metal, cut out with a Harbor Freight jigsaw, tacked them, bent, pounded, shaped and welded them in. Better than factory now. Upon alignment it came out to factory specs. Tires wearing fine.

What we need, is someone with awesome metal skills to fab up and mass-produce floor pans and frame horns. They have replacement panels for other cars for sale. If someone did, I'm sure the demand would make it worth the effort. Good luck with your repair. I'm trying to grasp the fact that all of a sudden this became noticeable to you, by the condition of the rot.
