To clarify, oil smoke can be white, but it always has a blue twinge to it. If you'd like, play this vid of my old car revving, you'll see "white" oil smoke (and the blue tint it has). Water vapor would be pure white.

Yeah, the blue is subtle. Everything else about the description is oil phart. |

to clairify for ya all, I have a freshly built g10, pro built by same builder who has done two others for me, its got the farts. under 700 miles on it. I have been going about analyzing the whys and wherefors to come to a definite conclusion as to the cause. yesterday I built a "fart collector". it works perfectly. I believe that Snowfish will post pics here. the basic construction is this: you are replacing the "Y-tube" with hoses and a collection jar. take a peanut butter jar, plastic, drill three holes in the top to accomidate the three hoses that will be required. use epoxy or rtv to seal the hoses to the lid where they enter. I used garden hose to go from the valve cover to the jar. this hose should be about 1-2 inches from the bottom of the jar. the second hose, using garden hose, it fits the nipples on the v/c and the air filter, runs from the jar back to the air filter housing. seal this hose with the end near the top of the jar, maybe 1 inch or so into the jar. the third is for the pcv. run this one into the jar about 1 inch also. you want these two to be near the top so as to not suck up the oil deposited from the valve cover hose. it is a band aid fix, but I could not tell when it occurred, I just pulled over to check. there it is! almost exactly one ounce of oil. try it. at least you will not be fogn' out the neighbors. |

So.. For our OP.... Are you loosing OIL or are you loosing Coolant? Is your radiator fill bottle properly filled? If you open the radiator cap - is it still filled with juice all the way up to the cap? Is your oil still filled up to the top notch on the dipstick or is it lower? From the sound of it - you would be seeing fluid loss somewhere.... Thanks |

And, just to: ![]() If there is so much smoke that it stops traffic, even if there is a blue tinge to it, you're burning more than just farting oil by the spoon fulls. |

Here's the catch can/fart catcher, that Sphenicie built, for testing purposes.![]() ![]() ![]() Please note, the hose leading to the air cleaner slid down during inspection. A clamp will need to be added if more testing is needed. But that's another story.......... If the oil, in the container, was more of a rich mocha color, then coolant leak/head gasket leak would be suspect.
Maybe. But you will have a very good idea of what's circulating around in the crankcase. If it does solve the farts, remember...
and more will be required to repair correctly. |

While you have the head off will be a good time to double check to see if the oil restrictor is actually in place.--might save you some time if you get one from Geo Glenn in advance. |

I've got one in my pocket, and another one in a dead engine. I've been ordering new check valves for overhauled engines. |

Did the guy that rebuilt it bother buying new head gasket bolts? I'd it is indeed a fresh rebuild then you might want to try just replacing those and the gasket. You could have a peek at the valves while your in there |

hey Omni, I pulled the head yesterday. check valve is in place, correctly orientated. all looks good. I sent pics to Snowfish via email. I don't do the picture posting thing. have you put in a fart collector yet? if you want it I will send you the one I built, so you can determine the size of your farts. @ DGR; in my case, anyway; yes, he used the GG bolts that I handed him.
