I have a 1996 4 cylinder geo metro sedan [http://imgur.com/bgDoDoX] and it looks like engine oil is leaking here: http://imgur.com/JcSChb5 I was trying to flush my coolant system and did not know which hose went from the radiator to the engine, so when I went under the engine I found two pipes connecting to hoses from the radiator, thought one of them was holding coolant but both spilled red syrup like fluid: http://imgur.com/a/q2Sx6 This is tran. fluid correct? Anyways found the big coolant hose and swabbed it with my finger and milk like fluid came out. Any ideas? http://imgur.com/7WkG4U9 I also have some identification problems with the following. What are they? In the first picture, I was told it is a timing cap but it was disconnected in my car and looks to lead to the air intake flow thing. The second looks like a bell and the third pic was a gear underneath my car. Should this have some type of cover? http://imgur.com/a/2LXAL Also my engine is leaking where the timing cover is. Is there any information I could snag from that? http://imgur.com/lgEVk3l Thank you for reading. If there is anywhere I should post this let me know. |

The second pic is the horn, the third is the flex plate, no idea what the first is. The oil leak is from the valve cover.

I believe my 95 had the same thing (it's been 10 years, so excuse me if I am wrong). It was a round plastic cylinder that sat in front of the top of the timing belt cover. I believe it is an air intake resonator. It looks like you broke it. You could rtv it back together and put it back on. Don't know what happens if you leave it off. More intake noise? Slightly less power at at some specific load? On the 2000 it is replaced with a smaller "S" shaped tube/cylinder that sits on top of the intake tube. |

Sinequa: I checked the valve cover gasket and it was good. but the screws were loose. Going to re-install screws tight and see if it still leaks. The first is what Silver2K is talking about. Silver2K: Would you also clamp it as well? |

Your oil leak is not the valve cover, it is the camshaft seal. |
