Hi all,

I have a 91 geo metro lsi. I needed to replace the engine and so i've gotten a new engine.

Well the mechanic put the engine in, and then tried to turn it over.
What he's telling me is the engine shop sent me a new 3 cyl motor out of a 97. And that the car doesnt have a sensor on the cam but this engine requires it, and there is fire to the coil but no fire to the cam.

This doesn't make any sense to me, has anybody run into this? Is there a way to work around this? Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

My F.I.L. says trampolines cure cancer too, sound like you got an idiot for a mechanic.

Got boost?

The distributor in the '97 has a camshaft position sensor (CMP) built in, the '91 does not. You need to use the distributor and intake manifold from your old engine. Then you'll be good to go :thumb

Hey thanks for the advise.

I asked him about what you mentioned and he said he did switch out both the manifold and the distributor. Any additional thoughts?

Have him recheck that he connected all intake grounds. Several ground wires connect to the intake manifold. If not connected will cause issues such as yours.

I'm at my witts end here.

So to recap, 91 geo metro lsi. The car had a really horrible knock so we replaced the engine.

We replaced the engine with a 97, we've put on the old intake and the old distributor.

We're getting no spark.

We've replaced the coil, and the pickup-coil, put on a new distributor button and a new distributor cap.

We have a tester and we're getting no fire to the spark plugs. Is there anything i can look for?

:gp If the ground wires on the backside of the intake manifold (passenger side) aren't connected you're going nowhere...

I know this is asking for a lot, but could you possible take a picture of those wires. I didnt replace the engine, i can do minor stuff and that might be doable for me if i could see a picture.

Check the fuses under the dash and under the hood on the driver's side. You know. The important ones that have something to do with ignition of fuel injection.

Okay so heres the full update.

The engine that was used to replace in the GEO was a 97 Suzuki nitro.

The the distributor and the intake were used from the Metro. I know this because the intake/distributor from the Suzuki have additonal sensor plugs.

I have replaced the pick-up coil/distributor button, spark plugs and wires, i have also replaced the coil.

I have looked for the grounds on the "passenger side" of the intake. I cannot find any grounds that are having loose that should go to the passenger side of the intake. I did find grounds on the drivers side. My geo has a replaced ignition switch because the key got broke off inside of the old one. The car was running with the new ignition switch.

I have yet to check the fuses under the dash of the car, but I do know that the fuses under the hood are good.

I've attached pictures of the ignition and i've also attached pictures of the grounds that I found.

Can someone please take pictures of the grounds on the passenger side? I have no loose or hanging wires.

Is anybody near Delaware? I'd pay for help at this point because I'm just stumped. I really need to get this car running my mother doesn't have a vehicle. Does anybody know someone in the philly/DE/SNJ area that they trust? I would do a ustream and stream out whatever someone wanted to look at.

Your picture shows two sets of wires that they bolted to the egr valve. I'm guessing that those are the ground wires that are supposed to be hooked to the back of the intake manifold. Anyway it looks like it should be a good ground. Did they
hook up the two wires to the distributor ? Your pics don't show that .

If you're refering to the pickup coil wire and the ground of the distributor then yes.
