Timing belt wanders

My recently changed timing belt seems to have moved over about halfway across the cam sprocket and is scraping against the timing cover, wearing a hole in it. Is this normal and does anyone have a quick fix for this?

Not Really All That Smart

Your crank bolt backing itself out?

One of the pulleys is working its way off is my guess.
The belt can't just wiggle itself off unless something is not aligned or it's not tight enough.

Did you take it somewhere to get the belt replaced or did you go it yourself?

Make sure you tightened the bolt through the timing belt idler.

Is your accessory belt attached? It supports the timing belt.....

Not the belt but the pulley.

Actually, I never took it off. I couldn't get it loose when I changed the belt, so I just shoe-horned the belt onto the top pulley and then turned the pully as to thread the belt on. Works fine, and went on real tight. That was about a year ago. So its still on, just halfway across the pulley. I remember years ago when I did a water pump and the old belt was on, that it was in the same position, only it didn't scrub against the cover. As far as I know all bolts are tight.

My idea is to remove the cover and re-align everything and see where it lands. Sure wish I could get that idler bolt loose. Probably need a good long-handled box wrench to give me the right amount of grab and leverage.
