Need some advice, n Help! Don't know where to start. 96 4cyl Metro w/AC, had minor valve tick( I think) 2 days ago we found a exhaust manifold crack. Coming home the other night, car overheated n no start while climbing a mountain on hwy! Wife limped it home, but now the motor sounds tired and won't really start or stay runnin!! We think the Cat is clogged, after talking to dad in law who sold it to us. Has new plugs, clean air filter n had been running pretty darn good, since I put new front seal on motor. Need some help! This is my wife's daily runner. Even though she is fine drivin the big 2012 Chevy Silverado. IM NOT!! Lol Any help is appreciated, and I did read thru forum but didn't see our symptoms. Thanx in advance |

do a compression test... you can borrow the tester from oryleii auto... over heated is bad.. might have warped the head or something. |

Check egr known to get clogged... I am doing a rebuild on a block and that thing was 100% clogged make sure the map sensor did not come unhooked vacuum line check timing/ crank bolt make sure it is not loose These are all thing I have encounter that can make it run poor on my 4 cylinder If over heated could have head gasket issues. I thinking there is a vacuum test for the Cat, and also somebody said something like measuring the temp before and after the CAT. if is is close to the same it is not clogged if it is clogged it would be hotter on one side. I am not sure how accurate that is. Just some stuff I have heard. Good luck |

Thanx y'all I broke the exhaust loose at the end if the exh Manifold to allow some blow by if the cat was clogged. Checked the plugs, cleaned the points. And this thing won't start, it feels like 1 or 2 cylinders aren't firing at all or correctly! Not sure though, I'm just a "shade tree" mech /glorified parts changer. Lol I don't think the timing jumped or is out of time now. Dist cap was tight. And the timing belt is new and had been in time just fine, it's been less than a year since I replaced the front oil seal, and reinstalled the cam bolts timing chain cover, belt etc. Wife said it just died going up mountain hwy, over heated, n wouldn't run right after... Any other ideas, Are Greatly Appreciated!! I'm thinkin new/ used motor... |

Do a compression test. sounds like it blew a head gasket. i saw a neon one time blew a head gasket, it would shoot coolant out the spark plug holes. compression test will tell you which hole is dead. |
