I double checked the part # and this is what it calls for. It doesn't seem wide enough. Note the gap in the upper area. Seems like that defeats the purpose of the thermostat! If I twist it a little, that tends to center it but it's still floppy loose, even with the housing installed. Thoughts or opinions, please?

You need a gasket! P/N THM1105 It's for a Dodge Neon, but it is really nice. And it does fit. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Thermostat-Housing-Seal/_/R-THM1105_0080422114 I believe this was originally suggested by Old Man

Might want to clip off that little square nipple with a pair of nail clippers or something. I don't recall if it matters. |

What Mythstae said. ![]() No gasket required. Just the seal from NAPA. It fits around the thermostat. Put the thermostat with seal into the recess. A little bit of Ultra-Gray RTV on the flange of the water outlet, and you're sealed. Not much RTV should extrude from the mating surfaces. |

I would stay away from all Geo thermostat gaskets unless you get the upgraded one through the dealer. They're all wrong. Go Neon, and you won't go wrong. |

Read this, http://geometroforum.com/topic/5087079/1/#new Use the correct parts for a metro and type thermostat housing you have and you will have no problems if done correctly. |

Nice! ![]() Keeping up with the changes. Gaskets and seals that don't work. Don't bother. |

Aweome info! This ought to be a sticky! I would have never known this if it wasn't for this board! My local AZ has the Neon seal in stock - $4.99. On my way to get it now. In addition, I assume I still need the thermostat housing gasket and a thin coating of RTV, correct? |

The Fel-Pro P/N 35365 goes between the head and the thermostat housing. Ultra-Gray RTV is the best. |

For me, no. I have a 96, and the single Neon seal is all you need. The gasket is actually for older models (correct me if I'm wrong), and the RTV is not necessary with the part number I posted: Fel Pro part # 35588 (note Glenn and others have posted other part numbers [not sure how different they are]). For me the Neon seal has done 30,000 + miles by itself without a single problem, and never have I ever added coolant since. Edited by ascensions, Oct 21 2013, 02:57 PM.

Respectfully, I Completely disagree (at least in regards to 1996 and newer models). |

The Fel-Pro gasket P/N 35363 is needed on all years. Actually, the Suzuki P/N 17699-60B02 is a very fine gasket that fits between the head and the thermostat housing. It's some sort of metal covered with a rubbery material. Officially, no RTV is needed. I use it anyway. Indeed, there is no gasket required at the water outlet housing for those that have a thermostat seal. The seal that Mythstae or ascensions posted is all that is needed. I prefer to use a little dab of RTV on the water outlet housing to keep external moisture out and prevent corrosion on the flanges of the mating parts. |

What exactly 96 and later parts that sell for a metro and part numbers are you saying does not work? I suspect most people are not installing these things as needed. It is not the parts fault. I have had no issues with any gaskets or seals sold for a metro myself. I have replaced both styles. One style of the gasket was upgraded but many of the old styles were sold and used without issue. They made it better and replaced it. |
