The NAPA THM1076 and Fel-Pro 35451 will work, however, there is a better method, that method being to use one of the other two seals listed in this thread. |

The rubber seals they sell at auto-huts, are not thick enough to seal the deeper water-outlet housings. It's hard to see it here, but this is a new Metro gasket, and there is still a 2-3 mm space from the seal to the housing. Now there was a TSB on the matter, but manufacturers supplying these auto-huts never updated their inventory to include the thicker seal. You can buy it through Chevy at $25 a piece, or my preference buy the $5 Neon one at Auto-Hut. Edited by ascensions, Oct 21 2013, 03:10 PM.

Why half ass something together when you can do it better the first time. Keep up with the changes. ![]() The next thing you know, you'll get a recommendation for Indian Head Gasket Shellac. That stuff will work, but, it sucks. |

What does your factory service manual say about it? |

When all else fails, refer to the Factory Service Manual. So far, so good. Not one leak.

No fight here sweetness, I just have not had any problems using any thermostat gaskets and seals sold for a metro. Never been much of a fan for using parts for other cars on a differant car either. I know Glenn is a great guy and knows as much about these cars as any of us. Only thing is, if you dont jab him ever now and then, his head starts to swelling.

No worries, I'm open, and accept all gasket philosophy. It's worthy to note there are two water-outlet housings (as posted in another thread)... ![]() If you have the shallower housing, I imagine the Auto-Hut seals will work fine. Unfortunately they list that same seal for later-models (or did when I replaced mine). Edited by ascensions, Oct 21 2013, 03:30 PM.

When gathering parts I neglected to order that gasket. So, when it came time to put it together the other day I just used a fairly thick coat of RTV Ultra Black, no gasket. I mean RTV is a gasket maker. Should be good to go. |

Yeah, until some of that breaks off and clogs something internally. Ultra black is a no-no. If I were you I'd promptly remove it, clean it off, and get a real seal. I'm using a neon seal as per Glenn's recommendations, and as I had both the neon seal, and the metro seal on my person at the time of install, I can tell you, the neon seal is 1000% better. |

Back in September when my wife & I made the pilgrimage to Washington state, the land of rust-free Geos, we stopped in Missouri first to get a rebuilt head that Geo Glenn had put together for our red '95 3/5. ![]() ![]() It was to replace this one.... We discovered at the Minnesota Metro Meet that the compression was, cyl#1 - 180psi, cyl#2 - 70psi, cyl#3 - 120psi. ![]() While we were installing it at his place, I caught some pictures of the process. Here is how he made sure the thermostat wouldn't leak. First he put a little bit of Ultra-Gray RTV on the flange of the water outlet. ![]() Then he put the THM1105 seal from NAPA and the 180* thermostat into the housing with the dribble valve at 6 o-clock. ![]() And when he torqued it down, just the tiniest little bead of Ultra-Gray extruded out of the joint. Perfect seal... Thanks, Glenn.
