The air bleed valve (Weep hole) is intended to prevent air pockets behind the thermostat. In the FSM it is indicated that it is meant to be at the top. This makes sense when you consider that air will be up there rather than at the bottom. Putting the air bleed valve at the bottom can cause an air pocket in the housing and failure of the thermostat to open at the correct temperature. Most of the time the turbulence of the coolant in the housing will eventually get rid of the air but...... |
