so when i start my new 96 metro it will idle at about 750 kinda roughly if its cold out maybe about 650 very roughly i start driving and the idle slowly will work its way up to about 1500 rpm when coasting ..when im up around 1500 after its warmed up and ive drove a bit if i flip the heat on it will drop the rpm's about 200 ...i think the iac might be going bad but not sure anyway to clean them or get them working better? any ideas or help figuring out the problem would be greatly appreciated ...also what is the average idle supposed be around for these cars mine seems like anything below 1000 rpm the engine kinda gets to shaking |

Here's a list of tests from mwebb: 1; Vacuum leak from rotted vacuum line or brake booster line 2: incorrectly adjusted throttle plate or throttle cable a ; which holds the throttle open letting in extra air and b ; causing the closed throttle switch to never close , so idle circuit never switches to "ON" 3; TPS throttle position sensor is incorrectly adjusted or non functional , or a: TPS ground is bad which elevates closed throttle switch value AND TPS value so idle circuit never switches to "ON" b; TPS value closed throttle should be about .5 volts , TPS ground MUST be within 50mv or .050 volts or less from battery negative with engine running hi beams on and heater blower maxed 4; ignition timing is way off should be around 8 degrees btdc with the little pins jumpered 5; failed IAC idle air control I have: IAC test IAC repair |

Check out the IAC repair link. Snowfish says you have a ISC and you can check this link. http://geometroforum.com/topic/3279581/1/ You can also use Google Advanced Search and the Site or Domain of geometroforum.com to get better results. |
