I'm trying to narrow it down, but here's what I've got. 96 3/5 Ran smooth no noise whatsoever. Changed the PCV valve as the old one along with the hose was full of brown oil. Cleaned it up and installed the new one. Then before starting it, I went straight to installing the new timing belt, and while I was in there, I needed to change the cam seal as well. Did all that got it timed, and buttoned back up. Started up and it's clicking like a valve would . Has anyone ever heard a PCV valve make this noise? Am I off a hair on timing? Seams to run smooth, but sounds terrible.

Update: Redoing the timing. It was set for 60C and I was getting some ping. Further inspection indicates that when in the 80 position, the slot for the cam pin is busted!!! I need a new cam gear. Any thoughts on where how and what to get? Would like it pretty quick, but after exhausting all local resources, I'm dead in the water. |

So I went to pick and pull. $8 I walked out with a 4cyl cam gear with my fingers crossed. It was a direct alignment that I could see by eyeballing it. Threw it on and it worked. Anyway, I fired it up and it ticked like a diesel still. Using the screwdriver technique, I probed around on the motor to find out where the ticking was exactly. Intake pretty close to the new PCV?!?!?!? Anyway knowing that it wasn't my valves or a big issue, I ran it for a bit around the block and down the street, and it cleared up over time. I guess I was worried about nothing. Anyway, I'm now running a necked timing belt. That cover is a B$TCH!!! Anyone have issues with debris getting in there? |

Welcome acochran03. I run with just the bottom half of my timing cover on my hatch to make cam timing changes easier with my adjustable sprocket. There are a number of members who run with no cover at all and I haven't seen any threads saying they got something in the belt. |
