Glenn, I am not a two bit and I know what I am doing. I used to work at a machine shop. I know how to hone and remove rust via a polish. Lol. When I got done with the cylinders they were shiney. I honed it to give the piston rings a seat after the polish. I didn't lose enough off the cylinder wall to make a difference. I checked the gap on the rings, and had no need to gap them or close them any....thanks to buying DNJ. I never go wrong with DNJ. And I didn't need to change that seal cause I had gotten a replacement camshaft from a guy I know with a a new seal on it. All I had to do was give the cam lobes some polish. Done. Lol. That cam had 5k miles on another motor.

I am not incompetent. :p So there ya go. Its almost sunrise and I will be redoing the timing one more time before I try moving on to the next probable cause, this silly looking head gasket.
Damn! I didn't realize that you were so blessed with so much knowledge and perfection. It really surprises me that you would lower yourself so much as to ask the lowly members of this website for advise. I apologize to you for bothering you with any suggestions that I made that took up any of your time. You can damn well believe that it wont happen again. I just wish I was as perfect as you. I have lived and have experience of more than three times your 23 years and have not reached the level of perfection that you seem to think that you should be credited with.

So If the guy was using the other timing mark, than your timing is off. Pin down

I would, but the donor cam came from a 2000 as well. I will be retiming it in an hour. Just got back from picking up the parts Ranger. I did not shun your advise, simply told you how I knew I was right on my vehicle.I do not claim to know it all, hence why I came here. PTA has helped and I am gonna try retiming it as per his post one more time to see, then I will move on to the next options. I appreciate.

Retimed it one last time, compression came up to 150 across the board. But my battery was too dead for a start. So I stuck the battery on the overnight charger. I'm pretty sure I just had the timing wrong. THANKS all. Even you Glenn and Oldman. Lol. I meant no disrespect and I know its hard to determine feelings from over a forum.

Here are the two pics of where my two marks are when timed. Correct me if I am wrong!

yep, this will start. make sure for the first 500KM you drive WOT as much as possible this will help seat your rings. then change your oil and filter to a good quality synthetic .
btw, i painted my engine the same color as you. my compression is now 180-180-180-180 .

Grabber green was a good choice cause I have zipties melted into the bumper from plastiwelding the crack shut. xD So I named it Frankenstien.

Sure will! I have a bunch of hills around me, so that is easy. :p I am a Valvoline guy, so I already have Valvoline Synthetic in it. But I plan on the next oil change changing to Royal Purple, which I normally use for my V8 or high performance builds. Stuff is pricey, but worth it.

Assuming that the camshaft pin is in the bottom hole on the second picture, you have it right.

I may be slow to respond, and you may have regained compression already.

I would strongly consider you look at your lifters. I have had lifters that have not frozen up quite yet, and they are sticky enough to just barely keep a valve from sealing up. it is easy enough to pull them without a big tear down, too.

Guess the timing was just jacked up all the other times. I am new to these Metros, so I can see how I messed it up a tad. Lol

I come from normally doing V8s or Diesel things. Lol. 4cyls are newish to me. But I do have a whole new respect for the Metros.

So....new battery in and now the compression is poop again. Back to 90-35-35-90. But this time on the #2 and #3 cylinders the compression leaks out somewhere. This could be none other than a head gasket related issue. Meanwhile #1 and #4 hold at 90 the whole time. So I will be checking head bolt torque again and then the valves and what not. I have already ordered a DNJ headgasket to replace the silly looking FelPro one.

I also lack a spark. Upon coil check I find both are not working. Lol. I will be ordering two new ones from Rockauto, any suggestions on the brand?
