Well today I decided to work on my 92 automatic 2dr. since I got the 94 3/5 I have not been driving the 92. However Before I quite driving it I realized the fan was not coming on. I discovered the old fan was bad. So I went to the JY and picked one up. When I put it in I drove the car until it was well into the higher side of the gauge .Coolant was boiling back into the reservoir so I know it was hot, But the fan did not come on. Next I unhooked the fan from the switch in the thermostat housing and checked to see in the circuit was open or closed. I had reading of 0 ohms when the engine was cool and I forgot to record the reading when hot but the switch was working. I also tried the switch out of my other Metro that I know is good. But the fan never came on. However when I hook the fan straight to the battery it works fine. I don't know what else to check Thanks for any help.

Did you check the cooling fan relay...it should be mounted to the side of the power distribution/fuse box under the hood on the left fender, next to the horn relay and between the battery and coolant reservoir...

Yes I checked the relay. I changed it out with the horn relay. The horn worked with both relays.

just out of curiosity, did you jump the temp sensor connector at the thermostat housing to see if the system was working?

When I ground the temp sensor the gauge goes to hot. So I assume it was working. When I get home today I am going to jump the connecter to the fan switch to see if it will run.

Sounds like the wrong sensor. one just runs the fan.

Well today when I got home I started the car and let it get HOT. Then I unplugged the fan switch in the thermostat housing and I used a paper clip to jump the switch out . I could hear the relay click on but still no fan. ???

go directly to the fan. There is a connector there. wiggle the hell out of it. pull it apart and put it back together. wiggle the hell out of it again........
