New member to the site, I Have a 2001 Chevy Metro 1.3L I4 automatic trans 160,000 miles. For the last couple weeks the car stumbles under acceleration. It will gain speed but seems to run rough until the speed in leveled out. As long as you hold the pedal constant it runs fine. If you slow down and then try to speed up it will start stumbling again. I found that if I keep the RPM's up by manually shifting it doesn't seem to stutter. The check engine light did come on but I have since disconnected the battery and the light is no longer on. I have changed the plugs (plugs were worn and white) and did a once over and found no vacuum leaks. I also pulled the coil packs and cleaned all contacts. It seems like a random misfire (maybe 3X a min) while it idles. But nothing that will kill the engine. I pulled the O2 sensor and ran the car with it out and it still stuttered. The car has ran fine for years then all of a sudden this started out of nowhere. I have read through a lot of the forums on here and nothing seems to match what my problem is. Thanks in advance for any advice you all have. |

Not likely Kirby, the G13BB isn't nearly as prone to burnt valves, especially at that low mileage, and generally runs quite smooth compared to the G10. Mine has 229K+ miles on it, and still has great compression, and runs fine. It could very well still be an 02 sensor (upstream specifically) and not have a code. It could also be any number of other things. Start with sensors, 02, TPS, IAT, MAP, et cetera. And check for vacuum leaks.

Hello, Chad Moreland. Perhaps you should use Chevron 87 octane fuel with Techron. I know for certain that it's available in the Western 1/2 of Washington. If you're using some sort of non-Top Tier fuel, it can lead to engine problems. Chevron Techron Concentrate is available at Walmart and most auto parts stores. A 10 ounce bottle in a full tank of fuel works wonders. |

GEO Glen, We have been getting the same fuel for the passed 4 years (Safeway and Texaco). Would this be an issue that would just start for no reason? |

Just asking...did you check the fuel pressure? ...I would hook up a scanner and look at what the sensors are doing...they could be acting up and still not throw a code... |

Listen to Glenn..... I've had issues like yours with other TBI equipped cars and it was most often a contaminant in the injector. And as I stated in another post today, change stations where you get your fuel and run the cleaner. A lot of stations in wet weather climates that have NOT changed their steel tanks out for plastic ones have MUCHO MANY CONTAMINANTS in them, and they will not change those tanks out until forced to by the State or EPA (read EXPENSIVE to do). Once you have determined that you have or have not solved the issue, there are one of two things you need to do to follow up. 1. Re post that this did not solve the issue, 2. If it did solve the issue, let us know and then let the station Owner know about it. If you can't get Techron use Lucas fuel injector cleaner. The small bottle will treat 2 tanks. Change your plug wires and try to find some coils to swap over. This sounds more like an ignition system issue to me. |
