coolant drip on tranny, need new o-ring and gasket?

I get an occasional drip of coolant on the top of the tranny. Do I need to replace just the o-ring or should I put a gasket on the housing as well? I do not see a gasket on mine now, but I thought I saw one available for the metros.

If you need the gasket that goes between the head and the thermostat housing, it's a Fel-Pro P/N 35365.

Davegran was kind enough to write about the rest of the story.

Back in September when my wife & I made the pilgrimage to Washington state, the land of rust-free Geos, we stopped in Missouri first to get a rebuilt head that Geo Glenn had put together for our red '95 3/5.

It was to replace this one.... We discovered at the Minnesota Metro Meet that the compression was, cyl#1 - 180psi, cyl#2 - 70psi, cyl#3 - 120psi. :smackface

While we were installing it at his place, I caught some pictures of the process. Here is how he made sure the thermostat wouldn't leak. First he put a little bit of Ultra-Gray RTV on the flange of the water outlet.

Then he put the THM1105 seal from NAPA and the 180* thermostat into the housing with the dribble valve at 6 o-clock.

And when he torqued it down, just the tiniest little bead of Ultra-Gray extruded out of the joint. Perfect seal... Thanks, Glenn.
