I've hated having to pull my keys out the car and go unlock the trunk I've been thinking about installing a rear hath release from say a 95+ model. Is it even possible to implement this on a 93. I think it would be a hard mod to install but im sure someone has thought or done this before. Any ideas/suggestions?

I have a factory hatch release on my '90 LSI. Neener-neener-neener. I'm not sure if the ones from a '95 and after will work. There are a rare few '89 - '94 LSI's out there . . . somewhere . . . |

From what I've read on here somewhere you can get one from a newer car and modify it to work. You have to modify the lever because it's too big or something.. |

No need to hunt up a hard to find factory option. Get a cheap power lock kit and attach it to the latch. I seem to remember I had to add a spring to pull it back. Add a button on your dash or elsewhere. Run wires to the hatch and viola, hatch release. Added bonus is if you put an alarm on your car you can set it up to open with a remote. It's one of my favorite mods I've done (and I have a giant Mighty Mouse above my head), although the taillight mod that is half done may become my favorite.

its not a hard mod at all. not sure about a 93, but the release i acquired bolted right in my 2000. the hardest part was pulling the seats and interior panels to route the cable. http://geometroforum.com/topic/5055603/1/#new (disregard the flip-flops in the above thread...johnny mullet is an avid flip-flopper and made me include pictures of his fancy footwear.....) Hmmm ... on my '91 the engagement loop is on the car and the latch is on the hatch. Whatever solution I come up with has to be routed to the bottom center of the hatch. A simple remote electric door lock actuator seems to be the best way to proceed here. I was thinking it'd be an easy mod like smallblock did until I noticed this inconvenient detail. |

\ I'm going to look into that. I think autozone might have a cheap one for like 40$

I think I got mine off of ebay for really cheap. Bought a 4 dr lock kit and did my doors and the hatch. If you need pics let me know and I will try to fit it in. I used the rear window defroster wires since my car didn't have it. Think I put the button in the defroster slot on the dash as well. Now I have a replacement hatch with rear window defrost and I have to either run new wires for the defrost or return those wires to their original purpose and run wires for the hatch release as well as moving the whole thing to the new hatch. I went to a salvage yard yesterday. (LKQ) they have millions of metros out there and I found a 96 that had the pull cable release. I also grabbed a push button release off a 95 mustang. I want the button and I'm probably going to try and install that first. I also found a 93 metro. 2 door hatchback that had a cruise control switch on it that was in the slot beside your dome dash dimer light is. I took that and all it did was ground and plugin to a connector. I looked under my dash and I had a spare plugin connector. I think it was a option on my car but no one ever bought it with cruise control? Tonight I'm going to plug it in and ground it and hop on the highway and hopefully it'll work.:) |

You may need a few extra things under the hood to make it function. |
