Well you have a couple of choices anyway. Keep it tied down or do not drive it. |

Well the two choices I gave you are legit choices. In fact, one was your own idea. You already have it tied down. Both choices work along with your hood pins idea. Maybe someone else can think of another suggestion besides using the latch. |

well the latch isnt the problem supposedly it the hood hoop bolts crack. im considering a tack weld or something but seeing if anyone else has had the o hood fly up problem. i got the new hood to remove the hood pins from previous hood. |

Buy a cheap small dog chain with a snap on one end. 25 cents at a local thrift store. drill a hole low in the front sheet metal that the snap will snap into and you can reach the snap thru the grill opening.---cut the chain off the correct length and drill a hole and bolt the other end to the inside front of the hood. |

The hood hatch loop had a TSB/recall...the only listed repair was to install the two bolts through the hood frame to secure the loop into place...if your looking for a more secure way to prevent the hood from flying up, I would fasten a wire cable to the bottom of the hood near the loop...with another loop at the other end of the cable, and a place to secure it, like maybe with a pad lock to the bottom of the lower radiator support so you can reach it...Just a thought... |

Yes, the latch can crack. Previous owner trying fixing this one.![]() And failed! You'll need to install nuts & bolts like this. ![]() This procedure was a factory recall. Most got ignored. Welding that frog hair steel is really tricky. I touch mine up for good measure.![]() The nuts & bolts would have been enough. But I wanted it to be just a little bit better.Braced up, clean up, and rock solid. ![]() Not super pretty, but she ain't going anywhere.

You could just go without a hood. Or, if you were very ingenious, and even more bored, you could figure out a way to move the hinges to the front of the hood, and make latches where the hinges used to be...corvette style. Hoods that open backwards can't fly open moving forwards....when you do this, take tons of pics, and do an expert writeup on it so everyone else can copy your work. In all seriousness though, any of the above mentioned methods would work, some better than others.

Is it actually cracked or damaged now? If not... leave it be - it's survived 22 years just fine so far... just inspect it for cracks or damage increasing every time you get gas.... Thanks |

my new replacement swift hood did not come with the recall campaign fix so i had to install the bolts myself. use m6 1.00 bolts 16 to 24mm in length. you have to sneak nuts up on the top side to hold the new bolts. i used a length of strap steel bent to reach into the latch area with masking tape wrapped around the end with the sticky side out to hold the nuts in place while i ran the bolts in. clean and lube the latch mechanism. make sure that the springs work to return the primary and safety catches to their proper positions and you should be good to go. one more thing, there are rubber bumpers at each front corner that should be adjusted to prevent the hood from bouncing. when they are adjusted correctly, the hood will close and the front corners won't move when you press down on them. |
