It is both. Pins and sticky stuff. You can just stick a small screwdriver under an edge and pry up. Just be careful that you don't scratch your paint. Unless you don't care, in which case, scratch away!

i use a length of monofilament fishing line to cut the double sided tape as much as i can. then i lift the emblem off with a plastic windshield seal tool. it works best when it's hot. you can use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive.
