You know.... I will be honest...

Put it on your resume so you don't get flagged for LYING.... Don't say you were fired for poor performance.... You were fired because you aren't a tool....

BUT... Here would be my explanation for questioning prospective employers
"It didn't work out." If they press you... say something polite to the effect of "The job turned out to be very different from what I was hired for."

I wouldn't offer anything more. Don't bad mouth anyone...
Likely that place was a revolving door...

There are more jobs out there... Find one.

Thanks
Thanks.

I honestly was only told, "I'm looking for a certain someone to fill the supervisor position, and you aren't it". And, he did add that he was sure I will do fine somewhere else. I will keep it to just that, if asked.

That is exactly what to say. The SOAR technique is very important, even if they don't ask the question specifically like that. 99% of hiring managers will understand that 15 days is insufficient time to establish anything or make a proper assessment of a persons ability. I would not bother with putting it on my resume as there is not any real job skills to put down with it, but you definitely want to put it on an application asking for your latest employment. Your resume is your sales page and does not have to include every job or position. You will generally be given an application that has a request for a chronological listing of your employment and that is where to include it. If you are asked on an application if you were let go for poor performance you answer truthfully and list it as "let go 15 days into probationary period". This will likely cost you some interviews but if your resume is strong enough it should not be a big issue for you. All your major accomplishments should be in your resume along with anything that applies to the position you are applying for. Do no be afraid to "spin up" what you see as minor accomplishments. If there is a listing of things that the employer is looking for be sure to list specific ways you fulfill those items in your cover letter and/ or your resume. Any questions or requirements in the job listing should be addressed somewhere in the information you are sending them. For the interview be sure you know as much as you can about the company and the business they are in before hand.

Hope this helps,
MMM

are you on Linkedin?
I am now. Having a hard time adding more than 2 employment history entries.
Linkedin while an absolutely marvellous tool (I think of it as my electronic rolodex) is at times rather finicky. When you hit one of those times, just step away and come back later...

So far I have kept just the free account, the paid account might be worth it in some situations, it lets you see a list of exactly who looked at your profile rather than just a synopsis, it lets you send email to your 3rd level and below connections and will let you see profiles of folks who are your 3rd level and below contacts.

Since you were in the service for so long couldn't you go to school for free and draw your G.I. bill?.....(assuming you just needed to get by)

Yes, had I not signed it over to either my wife or step-daughter under the new Post-911 version. My wife talks about using it, but trying to get medical issues cleared up first so she can be a reliable student.

Well, I can say that the job activity has definitely improved this year, compared to last. I've had either a phone screening or face-to-face interview everyday this week. Yesterday was Home Depot, Friday is an interview at CitiCards. Hoping for good things.

Alright, I can help ya here. I did my term in the service and got out, sure didn't spend 24 years there. But that does get you quite a bit of bargoning chips. Apply at government agencies. You get brownie points for being a Vet. Try the VA office. You may have to settle for a job that doesn't pay much. Apply on your local City's website. They have job openings.

Did you take all the classes about finding employment post service? I took 2-3 weeks of classes before I got out on all that sort of stuff and it really did help. Also, the post 9-11 GI bill. From what I understand, "Thou shalt take back what thou hasth given if needeth." Pretty sure you can take it back, use it, and give it away again. I thought the post 9-11 was very easy to use.

Anyways, I'm sure something will work out. You may have to lower your standards though. 24 years... were you enlisted? That's got to be some rank there. The civilian world doesn't hand out pay like that very much these days. A lot of jobs are pretty low paying. At least from what I've found since I've been out.

Thanks Turbo. Yes, enlisted. Made it to E-7. It is a tight market, and one that doesn't offer much pay. I have applied on the Arizona job site, and persued state and county jobs. The one that landed me an interview fell through because all 25 applicants all failed to meet their lowest qualifying score. Ran through that too with Raytheon too. Too picky. I have 'lowered' my search. All of my local Ace Hardwares are full and not hiring. I have applied in two states and also over in the 'sandbox' for contract positions. Hoping one or two of this week's interviews pan out. I need to see if I can use the Post 911 even though I signed it over to the fam to use.

You can take the post 9-11 back, at least from the way I understood it. E-7 is up there though. I got to imagine it being rough to lose that kind of income. I may have been a lowly E-4, but the pay was fair and consistant. Something I haven't found here in the civilian world. You just got to stay positive and keep looking for work. And when you find a job, keep searching for something better. That's how it runs out here evidentially. No one stays with a company to make a career. It's job hopping.

I also don't know how the job market out in Arizona is, but there are probably some base/entrance positions open some where. What was your MOS? Anything special? Something that could count as job experience? I know being E-5+ usually counts as management/leadership experience since it is a NCO position. My best advice would be checking county/city positions. The veterans preference REALLY helps. Some places actually hire nothing but Vets, which is good for someone like you. But it is a competitive job market now days.

MOS is vehicle maintenance. Most places require my own tools, which I have some, but not a lot. That, and my being 'off the floor' for pretty much 10 years (NCO pitfall) I admit I am rusty. I hear about many places that look to hire vets. My lack of a degree hurts many positions I see and apply for. I don't agree with how much degrees are being required. Why is Target Distribution Center's first question, if I have a degree or not? Really? I'm not asking for an engineering position. Moving product through a warehouse does not warrant a degree IMO. It's a combination of picky hiring staff, a tight market with many competing for a few spots.

In situations such as the Target one you mention, the only value of a degree is to show that you can stick to something long enough to reach a goal (as if 24 years in the service doesn't??) There is a glut of applicants, so it's just one more impersonal way they use to reduce their screening workload. Take your GI Bill back and get a degree and you'll be able to get a good enough job that you can pay for your little girl's schooling at a decent state college or university without it.

No openings for me. I've also been checking the city bus facility too.
