Good deal. Glad to here you landed what sounds to be a well paying job! Kinda sucks you gotta leave the fam for that long! Do they throw in some good perdiem for the time away? Do you get some certifications etc for the training?
$20/hr, working 6-10's. $20 per diem/day. Holiday Inn room w/ 3 paid meals/day. Air fare back home every six weeks or so to visit fam. All in all, I think it'll be a good thing financially for us, which what we desperately need. Only down-side will be the weather. I'm going from being near one border, to being near another one. Not sure on any certs. It's not training, just a short-term project job.

And today I was told to stop by the local shop here in Tucson to meet with the regional manager. He asked me about my departure last year from the shop, mechanical questions and my supervising style. Hoping this will lead to a permanent position once I come back.

Hmmmm.......I feel fall is in the air. Be sure to take some thermal underwear and heavy coats. Otherwise you might get cold.

6-10's seems a bit much of a work week, but what the heck, you ain't gonna have a home life up in the great white north. Glad something good came your way.

Got my flight itinerary, and it looks like I'll be swinging thru Denver and Boston on my way to Plattsburgh on Sunday. I hear it's already in the high 30's in the mornings there. Ugh...

Day one complete. It was about 54 today, and forecast has it at 74 by week's end. Not too bad weather-wise yet. Work is inside, so things should be alright. Let me twll you all... this is the easiest $20/hr job anywhere! These are NOVA city buses that need finishing to be sent out to major cities across the US. Some are complete, and just have QA 'snags' that need to be addressed and some need entire interiors assembled. For the most part. I'm doing things like tightening a screw and nut that some QA guy found loose. It can make for a long 10-hour day for someone like me who can't stand to not be actively busy, but I'll take the cake work. Missing the fam and missing the green machine.

Coming to the end of week 4. Today's temp was a high of 36. First really cold day since getting here. Days are long, but loving the pay checks. Catching up bills and next will be to pay off the demon plastic. Then start saving. Was able to swing OT today, which meant double time pay, woo hoo! Tasks have picked up, which makes the days go by faster. I find myself installing seats. panels, stanchion poles, and running wiring harnesses.

And a shot of what the vehicles look like up here... man, I'm glad I don't have to worry about car rot!

Ahh New York, are you upstate? Last time I went to NY I got stuck in traffic for 3 hours and ended up walking where I needed to be. Don't understand how anyone could ever live in such a filthy crowded place :-/

How far away do these buses travel to reach your rehab shop? I'd think that if they travel over a couple of hours it would suck big time for the driver. Can't be all that comfortable to drive a bus for hours. Ugh.

These are new buses. I'm working in the Nova Bus plant, 25 miles from the Canadian border. We have 4 NYC buses we're completing now, along with a bunch for Chicago.

Strong work ethic. Ready to work. Will travel. Gary, I am so excited for you. There are indeed jobs available in this economy for people who are willing to to do what it takes. Is it easy? No. Can it be done? Yes!

If my experience is typical I only have one long work day (Saturday) where I drive the same route for 10 hours, one hour for lunch. Most of my days are split with 2-3 hours early morning and then 4-5 afternoon/evening with about 4 hours of free time in between The seats on our buses are umpteen adjustable with air suspension and are actually very comfortable.

It's some of the Posted Image human type driving conditions that can be challenging and uncomfortable at times.. ^o)

I was thinking of driving the bus at 70 mph on the interstates for hours to get it to Gary's shop. Sure, it has adjustable seats, and while tooling around the city you might have the ability to get out of the seat a few times per hour, but while on the interstate it's just got to be gut wrenching to drive a city bus while everybody is passing ya and laughing their butts off. :ermm:

First Plattsburgh NY Metro sighting! Red pre-95. Didn't appear to be rusted out.
