Gary,
Thank you for your service.

Hope you are safe in your travels and work over there.
If you have mechanical expirience I would look at getting on with a school system for bus mechanic.

We have 10 full time mechanics and I know they get paid pretty descent.

Be safe, have fun, and once again Thank you for your service.

If you find any cool car parts let me know when they come to my house so they don't end up at the next street over :rofl

Be safe, check in often. Post up some pics of what it's like over there. Let us know what the local food tastes like if you get a chance to try some. Curry goat, yum, yum.

TurboEF – Yes it is. Job market is brutal, plus I really am looking for a career versus a job. I’m only doing this gig for the money. I want to come back with all credit cards and the car paid off. Utilities and the house will only remain. With paying my ex $800/mo, not having a single job that pays enough makes the struggle real.

Fubar – Sounds like you found the way to work things in your favor. Good on ya. There’s always going to be a need for auto mechanics, but with my dislike for how stealerships are shady and rape customer’s wallets, I choose to not apply for those positions, which I know cuts my chances down a bit.

Which leaves me with opportunities like Tubablake mentioned… working for organizations with vehicle fleets. The bus thing unfortunately didn't work out for me, which sucks because it was simply due to one individual in the position of power at the time. City positions frequently required degrees and seem to be overly picky on who they hire. When I return, I may pursue something with UPS, with hopes of something long-term and work my way up to driver. We’ll see. I will be consulting with at least two recruitment agencies for my next job search, I'm sure.

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes. I will keep my head down. I’m not going to venture off the base, so I only have to worry about rocket attacks over the fence, which I hope have slowed since I was at the same place in 2010.

Car Nut – In 2010, there were 9 different chow halls… sorry, ‘dining facilities’ on the base. Most with the same menu, but a few did their own thing for variety. That will be mostly my food intake. Being from NC, the last place I expected to come across cheese grits, was Afghanistan. LOL. The locale, does provide the chances to try some local cuisine. I’m sure curry items will make it to my plate from time to time.

Bills paid off and savings are the plan. Of course I will still be on here daily, so there’s no escaping my posts.

Tanner – My parts procurement list hopefully is tapering down… yeah right.

Thanks again to everyone. Waiting on my flight itinerary. Panama City, FL next week.

Wrapping things up here in Florida. Weather was cooler than I expected/hoped. Physical and final processing done. My last day in the states for a while. Catching a flight to Atlanta in a few hours, and then the flight over to Dubai to catch my last into Afghanistan. Chat later from the other side....
