I want to check all known options for a replacement top for my 92 geo vert.I also have two customers with 91 verts in need as well.I have seen the cheap vinyl ones like what is is e-bay and would prefer the sturdier canvas style. All help is greatly appreciated.

canvass or german sailcloth gets my vote. i've used many of the haartz pin point vinyl tops and they just aren't as nice as a cloth top.

that being said, the canvass is also more of a pin in the butt to install. you really have to stretch them on and even at that they loosen up considerably when the top balloons up while driving. it took a good 6 months for the canvass top i installed on my last vert project to settle in but it really make the car look nice.

i bought my top from an ebay merchant, 'diamond mall', and the guy was pretty easy to work with and was nice enough to respond to my questions and explain the convertible top business ins and outs.

the canvass tops diamond mall sells are laser cut and machine stitched. the rear vinyl light (window) seems to be a combination of heat seam welding and stitching. the fit is very good and i noticed no appreciable wear or shrinkage after over a year of continuous outside exposure to the elements.

a vinyl top is pretty much done for me after 3 years. 4 years is pushing it as the vinyl starts to shrink immediately upon installation. the canvass tops are guaranteed for 6 years but since the surface area of a metro top is so small, i expect no real wear and little if any shrinkage.

there's my 2 cents. :D

Rock Auto does sell Robbins tops for some cars. I bought one there for an MGB at a big discount over what other places charge. They don't list them for the Metro yet, but if you sent them a Robbins part # maybe they would give you a price and order it for you.
