Try to get an engine from a car that has been wrecked good and hard. That way the engine likely isn't the reason the car is in the junkyard.

What range of years will work engine wise? My Geo is a 1992.

My Chilton's Repair Manual lists years 1985-2000 as compatible. Might g10 engines allow for a bit of a broader range in compatible years?

And that's why you should burn that book before you start working on your car. 85 - 88 were a different animal. You need 89 - 2000 and just use the block and head. Distributor, thermostat housing, intake manifold and throttle body should be kept as is from your current engine.

Ok so i see my name and mpg info on this and well time to set it straight. Yes i had a honda crx si. Had mods. Drove like bat out of hell most the time. But when it achieved 50mpg i was on road trip to st. Louis driving 55 mph. My fiance was in car. That was filled up and drove and checked mileage after refilling.
