Does the 4 door have a longer wheel base than the 2 door; I want to make a flat bed geo truck. Crew Cab

Does the 4 door have a longer wheel base than the 2 door or is the trunk and front door just smaller on the 4 door to make room for the back door?

I want to make a flat bed geo truck. I assume someone has already done this. I would really like a crew cab so to get a decent bed I think the frame would have to be lengthend.(And I would not mind a tad more leg room in the back seat.)((and the ultimate, if I had the time, :shake , would be to put a justy 4 wheel drive trans and rear end for a wheel drive crew cab geo truck :cheers )

Thanks :hmm

I'm totally awesome! I swear.

The exhaust pipe is 4" longer, so I'd be pretty sure the chassis is, too.

There is no frame as such because it's a unit body construction. You may need to get creative to add length without compromising strength, especially for the application you have in mind. You know the old saying "where there's a welder, there's a way"!! :D :D

ALL older metro specifications:
http://www.automobile-catalog.com/list-geo.html

All newer metro specifications:
http://www.automobile-catalog.com/model/chevrolet_usa/metro_chevrolet_2gen.html

I think you will find most wheelbases are 93.1 inches with some of the later models 4dr hatch wheelbases are 93.2 inches.

2000 3door hatch has an overall length of 149.4 inches
2000 4door hatch has an overall length of 164 inches

I think this is what you are looking for,.

@Oldman I did not know they made a 2000 four door.

It was a sedan, not a hatch.

I always wondered if a set of side skirts would have to be lengthened to mount on a 4-door. Besides having to make a cut to go with the bottom of the rear doors.

Assuming that you're talking about a GEN2 car (89 - 94), then yes, the four door is four inches longer than the two, all of the difference between the wheels. GEN3 (95 - 01) cars are all built on the longer frame.

I think a 4 door sedan would probably be the better choice for truck conversion - remove the trunk lid, cut the "lip" below the trunk lid so its flat, construct a box to fit the opening and slide it in. I remember an article about post-war Studebakers having a slide in truck bed for one of their cars. I don't remember if it was a factory or an aftermarket item.
