I have pretty much a stripped 1994 Metro that I am guessing will be hauled to the scrap yard soon. I plan to cut it into 3 main sections and lift it into a large pickup bed using a backhoe along with some other junk and haul it in for scrap. The sad thing is that it is rust free but is pretty much only good for a complete restoration as both the engine and the interior were shot... LITERALLY! I was wondering if any parts are worth cutting out from the body such as the frame horns which appear to be quite solid and somehow rust free. There is only one bullet hole through the upper passenger side one when the people shot at the doors and hit the fender. This would be a simple patch job and doesn't impact the overall structure of the frame horn. One of the few that hit the engine bay hit the water pump while another hit the head and broke through an oil passage. Basically, the car is down to a shell. The suspension is gone as is the interior (shot) and the doors (shot). Besides the door windows, all glass was intact except for the windshield so I pulled it. I figured I would try to sell it in the classifieds here as someone might need it for something but haven't had any response. I am resigning myself to scrapping it to get it out of here which I hate to do as it does have potential but would need A LOT of work. Basically, if I do scrap it soon, what should I pull off and keep, if anything? Conor |

Someone might want them but you may have to give them away. I only had one response on the ones I have and he said he would buy and I sent my Paypal address to him. I haven't heard from him since. Ken..... |

You will not need the backhoe. If you cut it into four pieces - top, floor, front, back - it will be easy to load. Be careful where you cut the floor - the bottom piece on the frame horns goes back almost as far as the shifter. If you cut across at the front of the doors, you'll ruin the frame horns. You can also try to save the rear stabilizer bar mounts (if it has them) or the rear inner fender - strut mount - spring mount. That's another good spot for rust. |

I will see about salvaging the frame horns. The ones on my car aren't perfect so they might come in handy for this. I am sure I would clearly see where the frame horns are welded to the rest of the body once the car is turned over. Now, will I want to leave the entire front floor pan assembly intact or can I cut the two frame horns about from each other? I am still considering just junking the entire deal as it sounds like less work for something that may never be needed. Conor |

There is quite a bit of space between the frame horns. Take them out separately. They are welded to the firewall and the floor. Don't forget the steering rack. If it's still on there, it needs to come off. And all of the insulation under the dash and the heater fan. I sawed into quite a few things when I cut the frame horns out.
