Best tool; That you own!

I didn't see one in the past couple months, so I am starting a thread on it.

What is your favorite, most used, best tool you own? Use whatever system you want to compare it to your other tools, but which is your best.

Mine is definitely my torque wrench. I feel much better knowing things are tightened to spec. :thumb

might sound crazy (crazy old man) but the tool I have that I use the most and that is the most important part of my "tool box" is the 60 years of tool turning experience that I have accumulated.

:hmm

Kinda seems like you're thinking outside the box. Not sure if I can order 60 years of experience on Amazon.

you wont find that experience on Amazon but there is much much more experience on the geometroforum that is available to you. If I were young and just starting to learn, I would consider this forum my best "tool" available. :dunno
At least the way I think of this forum is that when my experience is overcome with a problem there is a place that I can ask a question and hundreds of years of experience is at my fingertips.

I do not know about best but the tool I love the most is my chain with two hooks. A chain is so useful for so many things. I love my chain. I have four or five short chains and a couple of long chains.

My big 'ole floor jack...

Working on everything was just a royal PITA before I owned it....

Chains, got em. Floor jack, got like 3. But none of them are 'big' in my eyes. Just regular. I want one of the long arm 3 ton 'racing' jacks. But my budget doesn't allow me to buy upgraded versions of things that work, just not as well as they could.

Thinking about it, I agree with Old Man and JM. The most valuable tool I have outside my skull is my bookcase full of shop manuals of most of the cars and bikes I've owned. If you can't, or won't, use "da book", it doesn't matter if the rest of your tools have "Snap On" on 'em. A fool thinks he knows it all. A wise man knows how little he knows.

I have a dozen manuals for my '74 beetle. But I think I know everything about my Honda. :stoner Maybe I'm smoking something good. But I still have a shop manual for it. The Metro is the only car I don't have anything for, but I did just buy it 2 weeks ago ;)

As far as hands on physical tool I love my Milwaukee m12 screw gun. We use them at work. and I decided to get my own. It is so handy for all sorts of jobs. It has the quick connect chuck so it is easy to change bits. You can get all sorts of bits and even quick connect drill bits .It has an adjustable chuck so you don't break those fragile parts. I love it at the JY. it is small enough to get in tight spots and strong enough to get the job done. They also offer an impact and all sorts of other tools in the m12 series.

I am insanely happy with my miller 251. Welds everything from 22 gauge to 1/2" with just a pull of the trigger.

My best tool is my mind.
I tried to find a video of Rambo saying "the mind is the best weapon" and the bean counter telling him "Well, times have changed". Since I couldn't find it and make a good joke (at least I thought it was) I am ordering you to watch the complete Rambo series this weekend and report back to us.

I have a million tools and have tons of favorites. I was dreading every having to reply in a thread like this. Tool I have used the most? My set of Metrich tools. I'd buy another set but 25 years later they are still selling for over $200 (used) on Ebay:

My worst tool? I have 15 ratchets and not a single one of them is worth a damn. Too cheap to buy a quality one.

New most useful tool? My HF band saw. Paid $100 used:

Oh, forgot one thing. I am jealous of you guys who have a mind as a tool. My mind does not work well and I am very envious of those of you who can figure things out. I have a few friends who can think straight and it amazes me when they come over to the shop and point out the correct way of doing things.
