OK- I replaced my CV axles a month ago and got rid of the dreaded cornering clicks. Now I've noticed a new sound coming from the driver side front; a rotational "scrape" that sounds like a worn brake pad, but it doesn't change when the brakes are applied so maybe not brake-related? It's not loud, but just noticeable enough to be annoying. Ideas anyone? |

Dust shield is rubbing. Just reach in there and bend it out a bit.

Thanks guys! Still a newbie over here. Hopefully I will be able to give that a try this weekend once the temps come up a bit. We hit -12.1 at our place last night, but should be back above freezing on Friday or Saturday. |

OOoooH! Great thread. I think this solves my issue too. I may have bent the shield while I was replacing a wheel stud. Would explain that noise. |

Would a noise caused by a rubbing dust shield go away if you were turning away from it? This is the case with mine; noise from left side goes away when turning right. |

"Would a noise caused by a rubbing dust shield go away if you were turning away from it? This is the case with mine; noise from left side goes away when turning right. " The dust shield turns with the wheel. Might be a tire rubbing on a loose plastic inner fender. |

A little play in the assembly will allow the rotor to move away from the dust shield causing the noise to stop when turning the other direction. It may also get a little louder when turning towards the side it's on. |

I think I have some scraping on my splash panel too. There is some of it missing and I can hear it on the driver side when turning right. Looks like it is rubbing while turning hard. |

No, but if it is a bent dust shield, that may have been the cause. |
