I'm going to dye my carpet charcoal gray/black to match my GT seats. The stock carpet is a light gray and should take dye well.

Things I've got for my dye job-

Kiddie pool

Liquid RIT dye

Clean carpet ready to take dye

What do I need to do to dye carpet, I've dyed many cloths and things so now I'm going to do the carpet, any special treatments?

I think you better check what sort of carpet it is before you decide dye is a slam dunk....
"Normal" clothing dyes work well on Cotton... Not so well on the man made poly fibers like Nylon....

I am thinking it's Poly something-or-another... Polypropylene or Nylon.... (Think cheap outdoor Frathouse carpeting)

Polypro won't take ANY sort of dye reliably....

I would test it on a corner.. just to make sure it won't wash right out or bleach right out.... and leave you blotchy old carpet with mucky looking weird sections....

I personally don't think the dye will stick to the carpet. I could be wrong ,but I think most carpets have some sort of stain blocker treatment on them. Maybe you could try a old floor mat and see how it works.

I would be more worried about it "Sticking" - then rubbing off... All over ME.... leaving purple tracks all over my shoes and pants

Kiddie pool full of- 2 bottles of liquid dye, 1 packet of powered dye, 1/2 gallon of vinegar, 6 over mounded cups of desolved rock salt, and about half cup of actitone. If it ruins the carpet oh well.

Why go to that much trouble? I did mine in my 94 XFI last month. 2 cans of spray can carpet & plastic dye. $16 Dries quick, looks great. Got mine at Advance Auto. Out in 30 min or less, vac, spray, let dry, install. 1.5 hrs tops, done. Did mine in black. Looks great with the gray interior.

I used the spray dye on a Few cars before it looked great for a few weeks, but mine started to fade out quickly. It is really great to get a car ready to sell. The carpet will look just like new. You just have to let it air out for a little while.
