Any nissan technicans available to shed some light on these engines? Good, bad, junk, treasure, timing chain, belt, mechanical issues? Engine is in a 92 nissan maxima. Thanks.

The Nissan 6 was a lot more popular than their 4.... Overall - I heard good things about them....

Compare it to the Toyota.. where everybody had the 4 and only a few had the 6....

I was a trained Nissan tech when that car was a few years old. Good engine just have to maintain like clock work especially timing belt and those hard to get to hoses behind timing cover.

I thought I read online that it had a timing chain instead of a belt. The only thing I can currently find wrong with the car is a leaking powersteering pressure hose. They do not give you much room to work on anything on these it appears.

In 1992 they had 2 engines. The se had timing chain the gxe had belt. the ve30de was a chain the vg30e had a belt. if it as a stamped steel timing cover it is a belt. A aluminum cover a chain.

They were belt up to 94. In 95 the vq showed up and is chain.

The VG is a good engine but nothing special. Its worlds better than the Toyota 3vz series.

RUN!!!!! FAR AND FAST any thing with the words maxima and V6 RUN

they are bad for valve cover gaskets, and coolant leaks.

3.4s and 3.8s in impalas are cake jobs compaired to these.

examples where i put maxima V6s are with...
4.6L northstars (replace the starter in one and you will see)
and 3.8L V6s in a Dodge Caravan.

My mom has owned one for 13 years. Its gotten ignition coils, a starter, thermostat, and radiator.

Then again its not a VG car.

Even a VG maxima is better than the shit gm put out in the last 20 years

Potter, only gave a thousand for it. As long as it can be driven long enough to get a thousand bucks worth of use out of it then it does not matter. Just a kids first car. Personally, I have never really been much of a nissan lover.

you must not work on cars for a living.... my post was not a how often it breaks its how much of a pain in my ass it is to fix it.

and btw your metro falls into the catagory of "the shit GM has put in the last 20 years" because even tho we think its suzuki put the engine in... it was GM. the pontiac firefly and geo metro where GM
like it or not the bodies wher designed and built by GM so we drive shit gm cars with suzuki powerplants in them tat GM got from suzuki and put them in the cars.

just sayin.

Not true Potter, Suzuki was building and selling our cars before and after GM was involved. GM had a lot to do with the body design of the GEN3 cars but they were still based upon a 100% Suzuki chassis and powertrain.

I think GM designed the GEN3 dashboard and steering wheel plastic, the falling headliners, and the GEN2 brakes. In other words, all the disasters. B-)

1. I do work on cars for a living. I've been master and L1 certified for over 10 years. Ford senior master right before I left Ford years ago.

2. The only things gm about any Metro are the badges and maybe the radio. If you've actually worked on various makes for more than a couple months you'll realize the metro is all import. Sensors, clips, wiring, etc. is all different than anything general motors designed. I also don't own a Metro.

Next you're going to try to say the v6 in a Saturn vue is a gm engine...

Mind getting a couple pics of the pages in the FSM for the 92 maxima showing chain drive? I will also keep looking. It is possible im wrong there as they are kind of rare now

Edit: my mistake on the chains. Learn something new every day. I was completely unaware on that one.
