93 geo metro new bearings and new axles 5 speed 1.0 the 2 items above were replaced 2 months ago and tonight it sounds like i have constant grind and a popping sound while driving on the driver side front wheel. i have checked bearings they are good i took apart cv axle it appears to be good and full of grease. now the grinding sounds like brakes are constantly engaged but... the pads have even ware on them and the rotor isnt warped. new pads also 3 months ago. and i turned the rotors on a on car lathe 2 months ago. and it keeps making popping sound even when i apply brakes. i thought it could be strut suspension but it looks good too. i can not replicate the sound either while turning the wheels around while on the jack. now there is a tad bit of a leak where the cv axle goes into the transmission. i thought it may be low on tranny fluid but it shifts just fine. but i am going to check it in a second. any thoughts? Check the dust shield behind the rotor and make sure it's not bent in. |

I just went through a fiasco with my 94 Geo 1 liter, five speed dealing with axles. I had picked up brand new axles from OReillys and finally, after about 6 months or so I had an occasion where I did a pretty aggressive right hand curve. There was a heck of a grinding low pitch vibration coming through the steering wheel. I ended up installing new bearings on all four corners, checked brakes, did a song and dance around the car with no results what-so-ever. I finally, because of the grasping of straws method of repair, pulled the axles and started looking at them more closely. I still had my old axles and pulled them out of the boxes and started measuring, and comparing, them to the new ones. I found the new drivers side axle to measure 27.200 inches in overall length while collapsed. The old one measured 26.750 which is the correct length. That .450 inch extra length was causing it to bottom out against the transmission bearing in a brisk right turn. The right side axle should measure 30.3 inches in length. It might be a good idea to check this out on your car to be sure they sold you the correct ones. |

Geofox, before I forget it; When I found where the problem was coming from I reinstalled my old axle (with a new boot since that was all that was wrong with it) the problem went away. I returned the new axle to Oreilly's and they exchanged it for me. When I installed it the sound was back. That's when I removed it and started measuring them. I did contact OReilly's tech people and informed of what I had discovered. They responded a day later, thanked me, and said that they were asking questions of the vendor that supplied those axles. There was a problem. |

Was it a masterpro axle? Ive had nothing but problems with those. So much in fact that if I have to replace mine again with it being under warranty that I will just say screw it and buy a different brand out of my own pocket. They are garbage. |

Possible buy back and search for a good body as a new home for your parts? In the same situation that would be the only acceptable solution with the Mouse. |
