Well, i have a hair brained scheme rolling around in my cranial cavity. I have a project in mind but I need a rear wheel drive transmission to accomplish the task. Is there such a critter?

First guess would be to fabricate an adapter for an old VW transaxle. I had a Karmann Ghia once with a worn out engine, and briefly considered adapting a Metro 1.0 to fit in the hole. But I had neither time, space, nor money, so when a new 1998 Metro appeared on the Chevy lot where I worked (in 1998), I bought the '98 and [eventually] parted with the Ghia.

I've never taken a tape measure to the Ghia, Bug, or Bus, but I think there's a good chance there is sufficient clearance.

A water-cooled engine would do something for the old VWs that Ferdinand Porsche could never accomplish: it would give the cars a working heater!

Subaru Justy sold in North America has nothing in common with Suzuki products. Justy tranny would not bolt up to G10.

In Europe Subaru started selling AWD Suzuki Swift re-badged as Subaru Justy in Late 90's till 2003. So , yes you can source AWD set up from Europe and it would bolt up to G10

The samurai trans will bolt up but it doesn't have a speedo output and you my want to look into the gearing in them. the samurai transfer case has a high range reduction in them.

the nice thing about the sami tranny is it is independent from the xfer case so it can be used as a 2wd
if you can find the early tracker (2WD) with the 1300 engine.... you probably would even have a speedo but i have never seen one to verify.

The Samurai trans combo will work. But you have to run the Sam flywheel, clutch and I think starter too?
