Check the contacts and ground connections, then check the wires for cracks in the insulation. These cars have a lot of plastic parts in all the wrong places for Electrical connections.

Might be something in the Design? I tried to upgrade to some High output headlights but my car would only light one at a time. So I installed some $20 Driving Lights, instead. :rocker :P

thanks for the help. I changed the passenger side headlight with the one that was bright on the drivers side and that bulb went dim too so there must be a problem with the wiring. going to check continuity etc. from the bulb connector back to the fuse box.

still problem with right headlight. what are those two connectors on the front of the main fuse box under the hood? the headlight that works still goes on and the brights and dim function still works when they are disconnected. do i have to remove the steering wheel to get to the headlight switch?

Many folks have had the same problem. Most of them have had the same solution.
After many years, and many headlights, the connections inside the plug are loose. Bend the tabs back and see if that fixes it.

Blown fuse
Have you checked the fuses? They're under the dash, by your left foot.

Can't possibly be the switch, there's only one switch and there are two headlights acting differently. There's a splice in the wiring under the fusebox under the hood, I've heard of that causing this problem.

The passenger side on my basket case flickered too But it only did it when it was in daytime running light mode, when I turned on the head lights on it stayed on steady. While working on the engine (and the battery cables were loose) I noticed someone ran a wire from the positive side of the battery to a white wire w/a red stripe located on the passenger side front corner of the engine bay. I happened to notice when I tighened the connection at the battery the flickering stopped. I haven't had a chance to run it down yet (other projects) but it seems to point to a loose connection as indicated above. I'll get around to tracing that wire and fixing it porperly when it warms up a bit.

Had similar deal with the HVAC I hit a bump and it would stop working. FOund that one on the back of the fan switch.

thank you guys for your input. I hope that this is how you reply to all the help. Thank you . However I still have the problem. 1994 geo metro 5 speed. On the fuse box , the last connector in the back on the left had a discolored crusty wire going in to it. The socket for the connector was also burned. I went to a pick and pull and pulled another one it had the same problem. Is this a common problem ? If so what is the fix ? Thanks for any help.

I am having this issue too in my 2001. I just found the fried wire connector and fixed it.

Unfortunately, I still have my passenger headlight dim.
I have done some testing. I pulled the drivers side headlight and the dim light went out. Leading me to believe that the light was only on due to some kind of leakage from the drivers side. I have done my share of wiggling wires and have noticed no change.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I have a feeling it may be a regular issue like the fried wire connector. So if anyone has found the offending connection that causes this I would really appceate it if you would post it here.

I am about to give up and just splice into the working headlight and connect it to the dim one.

Woodie was on target for mine. Was checking fuses trying track down a reason for a malfunctioning dome lamp. Found blown right head light fuse. Daytime running lights are working fine without the hot lead to the battery mentioned above. Still haven't figure out the dome light but lights work right.

My 1993 5 speed Metro has the same problem with the passenger's headlight being dim. It is not the fuse, and my uncle has been checking the voltage from the fuse box, and at the headlights themselves. He thinks the problem is my white/red wire off the passenger's headlight. Does anybody know where, on the car, the splices are on that wire? My uncle thinks the problem is convinced that if I find the splice, I will find the issue.

We know the white/red wire is on the back side of the fuse box, that you have to unbolt it to see the connectors.

Thoughts?

I have heard of someone tracing this problem down to the splice. The wire comes through the firewall near the master cylinder and proceeds forward along the driver's side strut tower. The splice is somewhere in that area, below the fuse and relay boxes and the battery.
