96 Metro CLUTCH NOT DISENGAGING; New Clutch not working

when the lever is out of position it will act just as you described...like there is no spring tension...

Did you have any problem installing the transmission, was it hard to slide on. or did you have to draw it up?

When I originally re-installed it I did align the reference marks. I then advanced it one spline to get more pedal, still the clutch would not disengage.

I am pretty sure you would have to retard it.
