Windshield Distortion; Replaced Windshield, Corners/bottom distorts road lines

Hi all:

Just replaced a cracked windshield. On the way home, noticed the white lines/road markings, converge towards middle of the windshield. So instead of passing by on the left, they bend in towards you (only on the very bottom corner) (much like funny mirrors at the Carnie shows)

Really annoying, my eye is pulled there, while driving. Had former windshield replace about 3 years ago. Now, not sure was it always there? But just noticed it now?

It's so annoying. The closer you get to the road lines the more the bend, in the bottom left hand corner

Anyone else experienced this? Would someone with a Geo please look at the bottom left as they drive along freeway and see if lane line bend towards you? Please let me know!

Thanks. 4B

I often buy cheap chinese windshields, but I like to look them over closely before buying. Sometimes they are so crappy that they don't sit flat in their spot, other ones are wavy. I have seen bubbles and pinholes too. The last two EV conversion builds that I have documented here have nice windshields, both cheap chinese. One was 68 bucks, the other was 72. You just have to be picky.

Where do you buy them from? Easy to get the rubber moulding too?

Had a cracked windshield. Had new one installed at a place in the junkyard parking lot. The windshield was $80 installed. It looked new so I assumed it was low quality aftermarket. When I get in the car I noticed everything looked distorted. Hard to pinpoint what was wrong. When I focused at a distance everything looked out of scale, like looking through a fishbowl but not as bad. Concluded it was so cheap cuz it was defective. But after 2 weeks, my eyes adapted to it. Now it looks normal to me. Glad I got it cheap.

You can get a windshield from almost any place you find when you google "windshield" and your town or city. Tell them you want just the glass, no install. Ask if they can beat the 75 bucks that their competition is quoting. I would strongly suggest purchasing the upper rubber molding at the same time.

I've had the same issue with the non-factory windshields from Safelite. Unsettling at first, but I could live with it for the difference in price. On my old Subaru Outback (with wiper heater strips) the quote I got was $150 for the generic vs $750 for the OEM.

I may look into this. I've got so many fine pits in the windshield that driving into the setting sun makes the whole windshield bright and very hard to see through. Any other time it's fine other than wearing out wiper blades quickly. Good thing it never rains here to need to :(
