Broken Bolt!!

What's up guys, I was trying to do a friend a favor and help him change his waterpump. Well while doing this I read on this thread here
http://geometroforum.com/topic/4491045/1/

That I could put something inside the hole on the transmission to hold the flywheel so I can actually turn the crankpully. While doing this the piece that I put in there snapped in half. I'm not sure of any way to actually get it now being that it's behind the flywheel other than taking the transmission off the car. It's to big to fit between the grooves of the flywheel.. what lies behind? If I leave the piece will this cause damage to the transmission? Are there other ways of extracting it out of there? The peice was the size of a dime, therefor can't fit, nor get stuck between the flywheel no matter what happens. I'm just not exactly sure what is behind the flywheel that it could possibly damage. Any inside would be grateful. Thanks in advance.

No need to remove that bolt when doing a water pump. Some favor you did for that guy :whistle

Any way to get a small magnet in there?

Correct, you do not have to remove that bolt.
Pull the flywheel inspection plate. It is at the bottom, between the engine and transmission. You should be able to fish it out then.

I know right, I actually can't fish it out from there as it's to large to fit between the teeth of the flywheel. :smackface I'm just curious what's beyond the flywheel that that can get into and damage? I'd rather not pull the transmission, and neither would he but if necessary I will. But if the bolt isn't going to disrubt anything than we would rather leave it.. :-/

Should have read the whole thread. ^o) Sorry for your troubles. You might could pull the starter and fish a magnet down that way. It likely will not hurt anything but I suppose it could get hung up in the pressure plate.

:gp You might be able to get it back this way. If you do try this, or remove the inspection plate on the bottom. Make sure to disconnect the battery first. We are all about safety here.

Behind the fly wheel is just the webbing for the block. This piece does have to get out of there somehow. You don't want it floating around in there. That flywheel could throw it thru the case or damage the clutch.

That was my thought. The flywheel will hit it and can impart quite a bit of momentum to it. Small projectile getting slammed around in an enclosed area.
