Hi all I just replaced my automatic transmission on my 1998 metro with a 1.3. I have to return the old for a core but before I do I would like to remove the old neutral safety switch. I took the bolt out but I cant get it to come off. Thought I would come here and post before I take a B.F.H. to it lol. I would also like to know what might have went wrong with the old one and what it would cost to rebuild? Is ity worth it? What happened to it? I was driving and went to slow down to make a turn. I pressed on the gas to go and nothing happened. I heard some rattling and clanking and it would whine even when I put it in neutral. So would it be worth fixing or rebuildiung and what would it cost to do right?

having travelled down that same road less than a year ago I would say ALOT to rebuild your tranny-how much I don't know-I installed a used auto tranny I purchased off ebay for about 200 dollars and another 100 to ship it-as far as the switch goes it should come off if the bolt is removed I think-all I could say there is pull hard-does the place where you're returning the core to have any requirements on what must be on it?-the solenoids alone cost at least 100 dollars new-I would strip off as many parts off your core as you can before you turn it in-

So then the core is only 50.00. It may be worth keeping around? Also yea short of putting a pry bar to it i can't pull it off with the bolt out. I can swivel it around. But I can't pull it off.

just my $.02...I would keep it and disassemble it to use as a learning experience...and try to rebuild it...here is some good reading

let's see now to refresh my memory the neutral safety switch is that kinda triangle shaped thing with the big wire harness that sits atop the shifting mechanism? I would think it should come off if you would stick a large screwdriver under it and turn it-I don't remember mine being that difficult to get off hmmm-
