Ok so I get into my car tonight to come home, and I only have half of the lights on my dash working. The gas gauge side is totally out, but the gauge still works. So now I have some questions: Is this commoon on Geo's? Do I just need to replace the lightbulbs? If it is the bulb, which bulb do I use? Or is there one that would be better to upgrade to. How hard is this to do to get to the bulbs? TIA Clay |

There are 2 or 3 light bulbs on the back of the cluster, I believe they are 194s. You have to remove the cluster to replace the bulb. Here is a how to on removing the cluster. It is a little different, but close enough you should be able to figure it out. |

This Thread has a pretty good description of how to get the instrument cluster out.

You might consider putting in LEDs if you want it brighter than it was while you have it apart. Also I'd replace ALL the bulbs. Beware though, regular "white" LEDs will change a normally green dash to a blueish color. Get "warm white" LEDs if you go that route and want to keep the green appearance. I went with LEDs in my old Dodge since the cluster lighting is so bad that even in the daytime I had to wire up external LEDs to be able to see the speedometer. Putting LEDs inside helped minimally. This is an unedited photo, not a split screen photo. It has an LED 194 on the left and on a brand new regular 194 on the right. That shows how much brighter a 4-LED 194 is compared to a regular bulb. I dunno how it would be in a Metro though.

![]() This is mine and it isn't too bright or really dull. It's pretty sharp. |
