Why it's so hard to find CA emissions exhaust manifolds(1.3L)

I bought my first car last year, and have been repairing all the small stuff on it since then, as there was nothing major wrong with it, besides a cracked Exhaust Manifold.

Before buying it I was told, that this was no big deal. However, I've not managed to track down a single exhaust manifold that is legal in California.

Been keeping an eye on craigslist and ebay, additionally I've asked 3 different mechanics in town. So far, zilch.

I was wondering if there is some other car that uses the same exhaust manifold I could substitute for it, or something else?

The vehicle is a 1996 Geo Metro 4 door sedan, with a 1.3L engine.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give!

Does yours have the cat directly on the bottom of the manifold? If so you're probably screwed.

The Suzuki P/N is 14110-51G10. These have been discontinued. However, a phone call to these guys might just find you one.

Check with GM, also. Chances are, it's discontinued, but it's worth the try. In person at the counter works best. GM will have a different part number.

These guys in New Jersey have something. It's a deal you can't refuse, from what I understand. :evillol

Don't forget the Russians.

The exhaust manifold in question has a catalytic converter that is part of the assembly.

can you jb weld it enough to pass your smog check and then look for a new one after you leave the smog cops office?

that's crazy that it's illegal to sell a manifold with a used cat.-as long as the emissions are below a certain level it should be good-a used cat is probably perfectly capable to keep emissions below a minimum threshold-sometimes envionmentism (sp?) goes too far-

Just how knowledgable are the inspectors? Perhaps you could get a non caifornia manifold, add a cat behind that and get decent enough results to pass the test? Anyone done it?
