yay i love electrical gremlins (your not the only one Stiffcheeze even tho you can go over my head in a heart beat)

my wipers are going screwy... it started off with the high speed on the wipers going first :x you switch to high and they stick no matter what like you just killed all frackin power to it

now my low and intermittent work when they want to I believe its a relay or some sort going out because at the moment i can leave the switch on low and doing nothing to the switch it will wipe when ever it feels like it. also it will pause or hang up during mid wipe every now and then

If anyone else has had these symptoms to confirm or deny my my theory of a bad relay please post your findings before i start poking around with a power probe and a DVOM. time saved is gold yo

or if you have had the same symptoms and it was something else please post as well.... again time saved is gold yo

Thanks a million GMFers

PS going to pull up wire diagrams as soon as i hit the post button :D

damn this is more simple than i thought, the combo switch on the steering wheel must be a heaver switch than i assume because it controls the only positive current to the motor. the int controller is a bit fuzzy to figure to me tho, its as if it gives hot constantly but kills the negitive to give one swipe? their for it is responsible for the wipers returning to home when switched to off?

seems my first route of diagnostics is the grounds first,

then put the power probe to the hot and low sides of the motor for a reaction.

then check the combo switch and int. controller with a DVOM

perhaps i am reading the diagram wrong as well.
any constructive kicks in the ass are more than appreciated.. any way it's 3 am... i will ponder this in the morning after some sleep

The park circuit does not depend upon the switch in any way, it comes from inside the wiper motor housing. If you turn off the key with the wipers halfway up, remove the switch from the car completely, then turn the key back on, the wipers should park.

something i had not thought of woodie, i'll look into it as well. but isn't the park/run switch in with the wiper motor?

Sounds like your on the right track. Woodie's right. the park circuit is inside the motor.
Off to re-aquatint myself with the wiper circuit. :news
Post what you find, I'll see what I can do to help, but it sounds like you got it.
Remember to use a known good ground when your checking the hot side. 'Bout all I got at this time.

i may need to get my alternatior checked and possibly replaced... took the long way home to do a little more diagnostic tonight and found that yes i am running slightly under voltage (13.5 under load round 2-3 grand on the tach) and when you bring the car to an idle the low and intermittent wipers do not behave. but once rolling and the system has bounced back they start working like a champ. high side is still dead as a hammer and i think 20 years of service is a good run. still need to diagnose... will be the weekend before i can run out to the bro in laws house to access the power probe and DVOM, will update on this soon.

found it, 2 wires at the connector from the switch harness to the main harness, replaced the connecters with the ones i had in the 93 parts car and she is good to go... btw any reason why 2 wires in the wiper switch are dead headed at that connector?
