You could wire in a small toggle or push button to turn it on and off if so desired. It appears there is a voltage drop at the cigar lighter and not an accurate assessment of the charging rate.
hey doc, the led voltage displays come in 2 flavors, 2 wire (always on) and 3 wire (on with key operation.)

the 3 wire displays have a white wire that gets connected to a circuit that is live with the key on and that turns the unit on.

i've been deciding on where i should locate one of these on my gt. it has dual use switches on both sides of the instrument bezel. :hmm

Received mine in the mail. Need to see where the preferred tap in point for the wiring is, and also watching for any similar temp gauge, as our cars could benefit from one greatly.

this i do like, i also like the amperage, but that would involve heavier wires, i do like the voltage, doing the nath in your head will tell you the amps most of the time.
mice idea, and great install.
i might just do it to.

Would be even better (for me) if it were LCD that way you could have it on all the time with little current draw. One of my metros sits a lot and it would be nice to look in the window to see if it needs a charge before a cold front moves in. Looked quickly on digikey but didn't see anything as simple or cheap.

I just picked up a swift dome light clock with no cutout for the clock. Gonna decide if the temp thing will fit in it. Ill get around to it soon.
