So the weather will be ok this weekend, and the plan is to flush the tranny and change the filter. Have not gotten my Chilton Manual in just yet and was wondering what the torque specs on the bolts are. Is there anything special I should lookout for. Does our oil pan have a magnet in it to catch metal? |

according to Haynes torque is 53 INCH pounds for the pan bolts and filter-I would check the color of the fluid and make sure that it doesn't smell burnt-yes there is a magnet note location when you first pull the pan so you can return it to the same spot- |

not positive for your 2001, but in the 92, there is not a "filter". just a screen. save your $. I bought 3 and well, it is just a screen, no reason to change unless damaged. |

Thanks, fluid smells OK from dipstick but by the color its been in there since day one. Already got the filter from Rockauto, but was very cheap. |

from what I understand when you drain the pan you get only a portion of the fluid out if you want to get more out you can disconnect the hoses from the transmission to the radiator and catch the fluid when the engine is running-a word of caution, once I changed the fluid and filter (just from the pan-I didn't mess with the hoses) a few days later my car wouldn't go in reverse and shifted very irratically. I had to disconnect the solenoids and shift manually (and drive 1 and 2 were backwards!) and make sure I didn't park anywhere where I needed reverse. I believe the new fluid dissolved some gunk and plugged up my valve body. I was finally able to fix it after a month with a can of seafoam and lubegard which eventually cleaned the valve body-I got 7000 more miles out of that transmission before it finally died. |

For about a hundred buck you can have it professionally changed at a tech shop. Just saying. |
